Love this one! If u work at downtown Hamburg, it's a great choice! Lots of companies even often have business lunch there. They also offer lunch time happy hours which will make it around half price of the original price! Amazing food and fast serving speed. If u r looking for a nice restaurant serving German/European food, go and have a try there.
I fought for a team dinner yesterday. impresses with the decor, the quality of the service, the menu options and the speed of delivery of my steak frites.
I took my mother and brother here when they visited me, it was suggested by my friend who said their Schnitzel was said to be one of the best and that is exactly what my brother wanted to try, an authentic German dish...Shhhh, I did not want to spoil it for him and inform him that it is actually Austrian ; So there we were, on a Schnitzel mission! I wanted to be super local and take the train, which is quite possible if you get off at Stadthausbrücke, but my Mom chose to arrive my cab, which we did, but when he dropped us off, we were a tad lost at first. You see the Hotel Steigenberger and in the courtyard, there are restaurants with outside tables, but it is not easy to find Rialto at plain site. You actually have to cross the courtyard and look for the ever so slight sign that takes you downstairs into the basement cellar style restaurant. Looks are deceiving, from the entrance side of the restaurant, nothing too particularly special, but when you go inside and downstairs, suddenly it gets loud and lively. Dark, smokey (both cigars and cigarettes and with a Humphrey Bogart type feel to it. After you pass through this area and into the dining room, surprisingly it looks quite posh, light and bright with white walls and decor and an antique glass window that peeks out onto the small river that flows through to the Nikolai fleet I believe (small waterways that connect and flow into the Elbe . My brother ordered what he was on a mission to order: the Schnitze, and I ordered a fish, my mom tried some oyster Rockafeller and salad. We had a bottle of Riesling and nibbled on bread until our main courses arrived. I thought it tasted good, my brother LOVED the Schnitzel and could not even finish it, I mean the Schnitzel held the plate rather than the plate held the Schnitzel and even though they pound it out thin, my brother still could not finish it! I tried it and what makes it tasty is that the bread crumbs are filled with flavor, it is flakey without being greasy, and they use real veal that tastes tender when you slice it and bite into it. And typically, if a pork or chicken is used, it can make it a bit more dry. My mom complained that all her food tasted a bit too salty but perhaps it was or perhaps my tastebuds are used to German food by now and really, Germans are very generous with salt in their meals. It appears to be the main element of seasoning I have come to accept and my tastebuds have adapted to. I enjoyed my fish, no complaints at all and found the mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables to go nicely : The service was very good, and I feel they must somehow receive a lot of business from tourists being so closely located to a hotel, because they did not even blink an eye when we tipped them 20% which is not so common in Europe but at more fine dining establishments, they seem to receive such tips more normally. Prices here are a bit high, considering the location is a bit out of the way and the food here is good, but depending on what you feel like eating, I think I have had more interesting seafood and/or steak/beef options at other places. Come here if you want to try a good Schnitzel, or want to eat off the beaten touristy path with a nice romantic or intimate setting, otherwise, stick to Tschebull (Austrian , Butcher's (steakhouse , LandhausScherrer (traditional German , Fischereihafen (Seafood as some alternatives.
