We ate here two nights in a row on a trip to North Yorkshire and loved the food. Whoever's in the kitchen knows what they're doing. And the service is fast and efficient. Well worth a detour if you're in the area. View all feedback.
What Minibreakers81 doesn't like about The Castle Arms Inn:
Only one member if staff serving so it felt a bit uncomfortable. Why not employ a young student to help with service ? The chicken breast was more the size of a pigeon breast and the filling dry. The dessert left a lot to be desired . No background music. No real atmosphere except a feeling of tension as understaffed View all feedback.
What a fabulous place! Jill is the perfect host. Food is delicious (try the steak pie or fish pie! and breakfast fills you up for the day. Lovely seating areas inside and out. Great rooms with generous hospitality tray. Locals very friendly too.Good location for the Dales and the Moors. 10 mins from the A1.Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. I’ll be back soon, thanks Jill!
Popped in on a whim- stayed for dinner. Gem of a place. Lovely tea- we had fish chips and steak and ale pie. Went down a treat. Lovely landlady-Jill. Had a great chat. If you’re out this way- pop in. Worth it.
What else is there to say? Excellent accomodation, excellent food and such a friendly atmosphere from the staff particularly Lorna.
My family (along with our dog and I visited the Castle Arms Inn based on the reputation of a previous visit by my parents.Unfortunately, it felt like there needs to be a brush up on the basics of customer service. The young lady on front of house seemed pleasant enough regarding our request as to whether we could have a table. As there were four of us, there wasn 't a table available at the time. This, in itself, wasn 't the issue. The issue was with the bar manager/owner whose attitude gave the impression of, at best, couldn 't be bothered with our request or, at worst, smacked of not wanting myself and my family to be there. As somebody who works in the customer service sector, I have an appreciation of civility and it would have been nice to at least had an offer of drinks whilst we waited for a table to become available. (A case of what my parents say in Manners cost nothing .Needless to say, the lack of hospitality made us feel unwelcome and we ended up going to the town of Bedale... who made us feel more than welcome for our lunch along with our four legged family member.
Always use this pub as a half way point in a long journey. I had the burger with sweet potato fries and it tasted amazing. I asked for garlic mayonnaise and the lady who served us said they didn’t have any but would make some for me. fantastic service and attentive staff!
