Late Tuesday evening dining, after filtering Yelp #4 was Primal kitchen which was right across the street from our hotel, down a side street. It was almost closing time and empty but they stayed open just for us and we ate like kings! The food was absolutely amazing, we enjoyed a charcuterie board, the taco and the short rib.. No atmosphere. Lights on, no music everyone packed together. All three of us ordered medium steaks and they all came very rare. Not a place I would return to with so many other great options in Halifax. View all feedback.

My husband and I have walked by here a few times and always have been tempted by the smell, and finally we came last night to eat. It was quite busy when we arrived but we were quickly seated with our drink orders in. The food was fantastic, although the charcuterie board was very small in portion size for the price you pay, with not much in terms of options other than he meat and a few pieces of bread. Most places have different mustards, pickled items, etc. The quality of the meat was fantastic though. Our mains were brought out quickly and were both excellent, and portion sizes were more than fair. Actually, neither of us could finish! Obviously you can tell by the name, this isn't a place that caters to vegetarians. There were a few items on the menu that would appeal to those who don't eat meat, but not many. Definitely a place we plan on returning to!

This will be our #1 choice next tripThis place was 100 times better than the crowded bicycle thief that we thought we enjoyed the evening previous.
A damp evening in Halifax and stumbled across this little gem. As the name suggests it's for meat lovers. Simple but very interesting menu and I would recommend the ribs. Craft beers good too.
So my wife and I have been toying with going to Primal for some time. We eventually went with my kids (8&9) to have a late lunch / early dinner Friday. The staff were wonderful and seated us with a little extra room for us. We started with a personalized charcuterie board, which was excellent and set the stage for our main meals.My kids got stuck into their burgers which are freshly made on site. We knew they were good as we heard nothing from them and they weren't about to share.My wife and I shared the Prime Rib for two..... Well I definitely got the lions share, as this was a huge mouth watering piece of heaven. Perfectly cooked and we did not want it to end. The dessert was traditional South African, a "Malva Pudding" which also did not have to end. I believe it was the chefs moms age old family recipe, and judging by how much we enjoyed it, it is no wonder it is on the menu.Morne, the chef and owner, came out to greet us and really made us feel right at home. The staff were excellent, and we will definitely be returning.Thank you for a great experience!!!

The food is incredible with a wide variety of options to choose from. The atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are all friendly and welcoming. I had a wonderful time!
We were disappointed with our experience at Primal. As soon as we walked in, we felt underwhelmed. The service was unfriendly and unprofessional, with the waitress being monotone and completely disconnected. Our table was not properly set, so when I politely asked for forks for two members of our party, the waitress seemed unbothered. To make matters worse, the waitresses openly talked about our table behind the counter without any regard for professionalism. We decided to leave before even seeing a menu, and we will not be returning to Primal.
I proposed shortly before dinner at Primal. Our server was nothing short of amazing, she had told us about the special and how it used to be a menu item. We tried and loved the marrow! She was chatty and informative and we would definitely be back. Keep that bone marrow on the menu, it was amazing!
Did not enjoy my meal at all and also found a very large bug crawling up the wall next to me I used to love coming here I doubt I will be back
I’d never been here before, the entrance is in through the hotel entrance and the first right, the service was great, super friendly and quick but not overbearing. Also our food was ridiculously fast. (Like wildly fast). We ordered I went to the washroom and got back and it was on the table. We ordered the burger week burger and it was SOOO good ?, it does not come with a side but we got Parmesan truffle fries which were also super good ! The atmosphere is also very modern and fun, I’d definitely recommend this spot !

Have to say one of the best food experience I have has in a long time. My wife had muscles to start in a cream sauce and was really fresh and the taste was great. I had the steak tartar served with an egg yoke and toasted bread and was amazing. For the main meal we both had the short rib with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. The short rib was so tender and the was out of this world and the mashed potatoes were so good creamy and had garlic in them. I would recommend Primal Kitchen to everyon
We enjoyed a culinary experience at Primal. Their burger during burger bash is dense and juicy but had a good balance of flavour with the toppings. The beef short rib was served with a huge bone, it felt like we were eating a dish for sophisticated cave-people! Honestly it was too much meat on the rib, but we got what we asked for from a meat-forward restaurant. The beef tar tar was mediocre. It was lean and lacking flavour.
Primal didn 't wow me but it was good. Basic things lacked, such as my steak knife not being sharp (I had a terrible time cutting my steak, yet it wasn 't tough). And my husband had to ask for salt; the waitress brought a salt grinder but it was empty. Hard to track her down but when we did and she finally returned, she said the restaurant was out of salt. She gave us a small dish of coarse salt to use. I wished they had a bigger assortment of meat on the menu with some interesting choices th
This is my mother's favorite restaurant. Service is very good. The food is tasty. The steak was cooked perfectly but I was not a fan of the plate/bowl it came. The high sides made it hard to cut. Atmosphere is noisy.
