Their beesting is the best I have tasted for many decades. My mother was German and I still fondly remember her making it in her younger years. This beesting was just as good. I also had a steak and kidney pie and it was one of the meatiest and tasty one I have had. Unlike most other bakeries they did not skimp on the kidneys. Service was friendly and efficient. What User doesn't like about The German Cake Shop:
My friend and I both had a chicken and avocado sandwich and both sandwiches contained chicken bones. When we told the staff they just said " sorry about that" and walked off. The owner at that point was nowhere to be seen. Best practise would have been to refund our money. View all feedback.
We had coffee and cakes in this place. The apple strudel is a must to try. As a person who lived in Germany for couple of years and had the opportunity to try real German cakes and sweets, this place didn’t disappoint me at all. Inside the cafe is also amusing, filled with old and antique items that take you back century ago when German settled in Hahndorf and afterwards. Give this place a try!
Always perfect, Beesting cake is a Must. Nostalgic magical, clocks chiming randomly, very relaxing and entertaining
Great place for morning tea away from the bustle of Hahndorf. Most goods handmade in store, and the Knick knacks in the bakery and amazing to explore whilst having a break. We tried the pies and desserts, and they were amazing!! Coffee was good too!!
Cute little corner cafe which has lots of vintage goodies to look at while seated, giving it a rustic ambience. We had the 'Apple Strudel ' which was delicious and the cream on the side complemented it well. Vanilla ice-cream would have been better given it 's not overly sweet. The 'Beesting ' was also good. The crunchy topping was unique and added texture to the creamy soft cake bottom. Coffee (Cappucino) was good too. We were served by a lady and found the customer service was average. It would be great to see more positive energy from the staff member(s) serving to give more life to this hidden gem. 3.5 stars from me.
After previously living for sometime on the border German Austrian was looking forward to this cuisine . Particularly Kaiserwurst accompaniments . The cake shop served a variety of cakes lunch meals. The service was very slow the meal took a long time to arrive . The wurst was cold tasted off. In retrospect it probably wasn’t cooked through . Served with sauerkraut potato salad. A really disappointing experience. Perhaps the cakes would have been better.
