Tandoori Chef - Hackensack
Menu
The restaurant from Hackensack offers 19 different dishes and drinks on the menu at an average price of $8.2.
This Indian restaurant offers an uneven culinary experience, ranging from disappointingly overcooked Biryani and dry Tandoori chicken to praised dishes that steal the show. While some customers enjoyed flavorful favorites and generous portions, others criticized the handling of food and lackluster flavors in classic items like samosas and lamb dishes. Service can be hit-or-miss, especially regarding menu knowledge for dietary restrictions. Despite varying opinions, the restaurant has its loyal enthusiasts who relish its improved offerings, making this spot a polarizing yet intriguing option for those craving Indian cuisine.

Was Restaurant Gear at Tandoori Chef a mag?
Amazing!!! Best meal I have had in ages. Everything was perfect. I have eaten here for years but I think they have gotten a lot better lately. We ordered about 7 items and I can't pick a favorite because they were all amaze-balls!!! Even my cat loved it, and he's really picky... View all feedback.
What I N dislikes about Tandoori Chef:
This is the first time I have tried this restaurant, I ordered the house Biryani and a tandori chicken to go I was really looking forward to trying a new Indian restaurant. At first glance, the Biryani looked drown in color, I have tried Biryani at quite a few different restaurants, but none ever looked brown. The basmati rice was definitely overcooked from just looking at itWell, let's just say I was never more disa... View all feedback.
The food is always juicy and delicious. Expensive but worth it! Love love love this place. Always have a hard time picking between chicken tikka masala, lamb saag, and tandoori chicken. Yum!

The basmati rice was definitely overcooked from just looking at itWell, let's just say I was never more disappointed it was by far the worst Biryani I ever had... the Tandoori chicken was a bit dry. I have had better, but that is quite common with this type of dish. It was not bad, so for this reason, i give this restaurant one star .I'm so disappointed...
I was really craving Indian food so I came here for dinner with a friend. Despite it being peak dinner time, the place was basically empty. Only one other table was occupied when I walked in.The food was alright. Didn 't blow my mind, but also not the worst. I ordered the chicken tikka masala (mild which was was pretty flavorful. The portion size was decent. At first our server only gave us 1 plate of rice for 2 people, and we ended up having to ask for more. The garlic naan was also just ok. I can 't get chicken tikka masala without garlic naan so it was a non-negotiable for me, but I 've had better. The service here is pretty much nonexistent. You get a big jug of water so you can just refill your cup yourself. The server/guy at the front doesn 't stay behind the counter. He goes behind the employees only door into the kitchen area. if you want something from him, good luck... you might be waiting a while for him to re-emerge. The other option is to get up from your table and ring the bell at the counter. He did come by a couple times to check on us and clear our empty plates, but I think it would be better if someone stayed at front of house at all times. It just looks bad and unprofessional to have the front of house vacant, you know?A handful of customers came in to pick up to-go orders during the hour or so that I was eating there. I guess most of their customers get take-out, which might explain the below-average/low-effort service.Don 't forget to check in on Yelp to claim the free dessert coupon. Our server another guy from the back (possibly a second server? had to come and ask us about the Yelp coupon, like they had never heard of it before. But they also didn 't give us a hard time with it or refuse to honor it. Just a heads up in case you want to use the coupon.
The staff at this restaurant are very unprofessional and made a mistake with my delivery order. Unfortunately, they closed at 3 PM before I could address the issue. The quality of their food is also lacking compared to other Indian restaurants in Bergen County. I only chose this place because it was the closest and fastest option on Uber Eats. I will not be ordering from them again in the future. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant.
The food was terrible. The condiments appeared to have been left out of the refrigerator for a few days. The lamb saag was more like mutton. It seemed like the food had been sitting out all day since we arrived near closing time. The waiter didn't seem to care that we left everything on the plates because we were worried about getting food poisoning.
