I used to frequent this restaurant on Gulfport Island. I miss the lively atmosphere it used to have, but I still enjoy seeing the bartenders. They have a jukebox, pool table, and easy parking access. View all feedback.
What Derek Barrows doesn't like about Rooney's Irish Pub:
As of April 2, 2023, Rooney's Irish Pub is no longer considered an Off Limits establishment for uniformed personnel at NCBC Gulfport. In my personal opinion, military bases should not blacklist establishments that follow the law and promote a positive and wholesome atmosphere for customers. I hope that Rooney's Irish Pub can make the necessary changes to attract back the large revenue stream from military personnel w... View all feedback.

Prior to COVID-19, it was an enter at your own risk sort of venue. Rodents could occasionally be seen running in and out, from the rear alley; stale cigarette smoke permeated the premises; loudmouths played pool and cussed a lot. However, since COVID-19, Rooney's has improved considerably. During two recent visits, the happy hour drinks were reasonable. It is a good place to hang out awhile whilst waiting for your to go order from the neighboring Murky Waters eatery. Funny thing--on a recent visit, the waitress at Murky Waters told me she would bring my order over to Rooney's. After two drinks and a lengthy wait, we stepped back over to Murky Waters, and there was our order, on the check out counter, waiting to be picked up! So, if you do knock back a few at Rooney's whilst waiting for your dinner, be SURE they'll really deliver it to you.
I happened to discover this bar while exploring Gulfport, as I will be relocating here in a few months. Upon entering, I was warmly welcomed by Sean (Shawn?), one of the owners. I stayed for a few hours and several regulars stopped by during that time. Sean introduced me to everyone and made me feel like part of the family. We had great conversation and he even bought me a beer when I was closing out my tab. I will definitely be returning when I move here.
This restaurant has always been great, especially now with Tanya as the night bartender.
