While some patrons rave about the delicious food, especially the famed Sunday roast and well-cooked steaks, others express disappointment due to service inconsistencies and dish errors. The friendly staff and charming decor have garnered praise, and the extensive beer selection is a highlight. However, occasional lapses in food freshness and wait times have been noted. Overall, The Royal Oak remains a beloved local spot, especially for those exploring nearby walking and cycling trails.
We have booked the royal oak as it was relatiw close to and had good reviews. So, first, this is not thought to be a bad review, but only an example of how easy the scaling can be tapped when assessing a restaurant. we overlook the trio. of old codgers of the bar that was increasingly sung when they remembered about rugby and football, as they were not the pubs to blame! but is a simple thing like an salate that is fresh and crisp is not a hard thing to do, but both the natalate for our starter and the one who accompanied our net looked like he had been sitting for a day. If we could see that, the chef could see that and so it should have been easily corrected. after said that our rippchen was perfectly cooked while the squid ring starter, which would have been acceptable in any other night, achieved a 3 compared to the chili and garlic puwn we had elsewhere in the previous night and the achieved a comfortable 10. the meal was reasonable, but our general feeling was one of the disappointment I fear.
Nothing good to say about this place. table not available, so offered a table through the gents or through the entrance door. we would have gone on every other day, but it was the Mother of God on Sunday. eating took an old to arrive, first order wrong. and the mushroom and cashew wellington had neither mushrooms or cashews. I would have sent it back, but there was no obvious way to do that. the place is clearly short occupied, the organization does not exist, so that waits build, and they must limit the numbers until they can cope with the required service level. really terrible.
What a lovely pub! We went for steak night tonight with some friends who had popped in for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago and been really impressed. First impressions when we walked in was of a friendly, welcoming traditional pub complete with roaring...fire. The general manager was beyond welcoming and was making time to speak to all of his customers. The food was superb really well cooked steaks came out exactly as ordered and all at extremely good value. This is the best pub meal we have had in a long time and we will certainly visit again.
Just wanted to say we quite often pop into The Royal Oak for a drink but tonight went for steak night it was fantastic! The steak was juicy and cooked to perfection, plenty of chips and lovely peppercorn sauce. Excellent value for money from...this lovely friendly pub. There is always a friendly welcome from Pierre and Alice if you haven’t visited then you really should!
Lovely pub surrounded by scenic countryside. The food is good and the staff very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend, particularly if you’re taking advantage of the walking and cycling trails in the area
