Contribute FeedbackThe Hogs Back Cafe is a popular spot for travelers in the area, but recent reviews have shown mixed experiences. Some customers have complained about poor service from staff, with long waits and rude behavior, while others have praised the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The food has been described as very good, with options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians at reasonable prices. The outdoor garden area provides a pleasant setting for dining, and the cafe is also dog-friendly. Despite some negative feedback, many customers still find the Hogs Back Cafe to be a worthwhile stop for a meal or a cup of tea.
I stopped yesterday when I wasn't sure what time they closed. Shutter was quiet, but the staff was there. They made me very friendly to a cup of tea (I just cannot drink cold drinks because of medical treatment). I was so grateful because I felt something under the weather, and her kindness and tea with a kit kat revived me. Thank you
Fantastic fresh breakfast. Homemade bubble and squeak, not better than that. Right coffee. A beautiful garden where the sun is out.
We drove 15 miles to come to this cafe only to find it was closed. On TripAdvisor, it said it was open until 2:00pm on Saturday but at around 12:30pm it was closed. The sign on the entrance sliproad also indicated it was open. Disappointed.
I’m assuming the this used to be lovely little cafe is now under new ownership? Stopped here on June 25th and immediately upon walking through the door we were rudely welcomed and told that there was a 30-40 minute wait for food even though the...cafe was quiet (seemed to us they wanted to close early). We ordered a hot chocolate, coffee and a ice lolly and I thought judging by how the girl reacted at the till we’d asked her to perform open heart surgery. She had both hands on her head, huffing and puffing and generally stressing over what we had asked for. The hot chocolate had a spoonful of hot chocolate power in it so was more or less like milk. Won’t be stopping here again which is a great shame as we’ve been stopping at the Hogs Back Cafe for over 20 years.
Stopped off for some breakfast last Thursday at about 9.30am, en route to Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey). Sign says only 2 people at the counter at a time and as the cafe wasn't busy, we duly waited at the door...and waited....and waited... while the...member of staff behind the counter chatted at length to the two men at the counter. In the end, we gave up waiting and continued our journey. Such a shame that poor service by the staff let it down as the food is always very good and the place is always very clean.
