This new catering establishment at RHS Wisley Gardens opened towards the end of last year. It is located on the ground floor of a house near the Bird Hide and the Pinetum, and has been transformed into a cozy cafe. The menu features a selection of open sandwiches, salads, and cream tea options. While the quality of the food is good, the prices are on the higher side. What honeyHenleyonThames dislikes about Stone Pine Cafe:
Someone needs to learn some basic nutrition. What a lovely setting, but after trekking all the way out to this end of Wisley for lunch, we had the choice of 3 salads, but with no protein such as chicken, fish, veggie bean protein, or any carbohydrates. So literally just a plate of vegetables. Not my idea of a well balanced meal, and ridiculously expensive. The open sandwiches looked ok but at £8 each for one slice of... View all feedback.

The building itself was unbearably hot and I felt sorry for the staff working in those conditions. However, she was very friendly and efficient. Tables outside had lovely views but could have done with a wash-down. Coffee was good.

We ordered a flat white and a hot chocolate. I was surprised when they turned up in disposable cups. Not very green ! It is only a small place, surely they can wash up a few cups ! Both drinks were barely warm and I sent mine back to be heated up. It came back hot but I left it. It was obviously made with water and not milk. It was a watery, tasteless liquid, not the hot chocolate I was expecting.

Visited for coffee and cake early afternoon, Limited choice of either a muffin or carrot cake. Tea served in disposable cups with plastic lids. Disappointed that plastic spoons are in use, for RHS, I would have expected a more eco friendly approach. Surrounding area appears to be undergoing some transformation, the lavender beds need finishing, very dusty as lots of bare patches. Hopefully this will improve once planting is finished.

Overall, it offers a pleasant dining experience, but nothing particularly outstanding.

Reading other reviews I have to admit that I wouldn’t recognize the place. We very much enjoyed two excellent salads, one with smoked salmon and a lovely variety of garden vegetables, the other with heirloom tomatoes, green beans and “Sussex Slipcote,” a light feta-like cheese. Both were delicious. Either one alone would have been enough for two to share. Prices were perhaps a bit high, but not outrageously so given the very high quality of ingredients and preparation. Service was prompt and friendly, including quickly moving us indoors when it started to sprinkle. In fair weather the outdoor seating is very pleasant and will be more so as the lawn and garden landscaping of the area in front of the Stone Pine Cafe, including a new national heather collection, develops and matures. The indoor seating area is warm and inviting. We will look forward to returning upon future visits to RHS Wisley.
