This new catering establishment at RHS Wisley Gardens opened towards the end of last year. It is located on the ground floor of a house near the Bird Hide and the Pinetum, and has been transformed into a cozy cafe. The menu features a selection of open sandwiches, salads, and cream tea options. While the quality of the food is good, the prices are on the higher side. The cafe can accommodate 16 guests indoors and 30 on the outdoor terrace. The staff is friendly and the service is quick and efficient. Overall, it offers a pleasant dining experience, but nothing particularly outstanding.
Reading other reviews I have to admit that I wouldn’t recognize the place. We very much enjoyed two excellent salads, one with smoked salmon and a lovely variety of garden vegetables, the other with heirloom tomatoes, green beans and “Sussex Slipcote,” a light feta-like cheese. Both were delicious. Either one alone would have been enough for two to share. Prices were perhaps a bit high, but not outrageously so given the very high quality of ingredients and preparation. Service was prompt and friendly, including quickly moving us indoors when it started to sprinkle. In fair weather the outdoor seating is very pleasant and will be more so as the lawn and garden landscaping of the area in front of the Stone Pine Cafe, including a new national heather collection, develops and matures. The indoor seating area is warm and inviting. We will look forward to returning upon future visits to RHS Wisley.
We visited RHS Wisley after staying with family in the area. After walking through the gardens we fancied a snack and drink before leaving. We called into the cafe which offers sandwiches, salads, cakes hot and cold drinks and limited alcohol.
The Stone Pine Cafe was a quiet and secluded spot with outdoor seating available. Although the prices were a bit high, I found it worth it for the peace and quiet. I ordered the open smoked salmon sandwich which was delicious, with generous portions of salmon on tasty bread, topped with plenty of dill. I also had a pot of Earl Grey tea which provided me with at least four decent cups. While I wouldn't spend that much on lunch every day, as a one-time treat, it was worth it and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
