Kisara SUSHI - Guelph

Mediocre. Just in case this was an off day for Kisara (though other reviews tell me it wasn't), I've given this restaurant three instead of two. The decor is Japanese-y. Not bad. Not a huge menu selection, but ok. The food? Disappointing - poor quality. Way too much rice and way too little of what prompts one to go for Japanese food in the first place. Opted for the lunchtime “all you can eat”. What the dishes lacked in substance, they made up for in massive quantities of rice, even (especially?) the hand rolls. But how much rice can one person eat or want to eat? Contrary to the dishes pictured at the restaurant’s entrance and on their walls in what I surmise must be stock photos from the Internet, the servings of any and all of the seafood in the hand rolls, rolls, etc. was, to be polite, miserly. Unattractive, too. I had to deconstruct my scallop roll to find any hint of scallop. I’d almost resigned myself to there not being any at all, when I finally discovered a tiny piece - considerably smaller than the nail on my baby finger. The flavor was pretty well uniformly the same in each dish - okay, not unpalatable. However, the seafood soup was insipid, its vegetables overcooked and the seafood scant and poorly cooked and/or of inferior quality. In search of an adequate amount of protein, although I’d already eaten a substantial amount of rice (and not out of choice), I finally requested a serving of teriyaki salmon. Apart from the crunch roll, which did feature a good combo of textures and a bit of spice, the teriyaki was the best thing on the menu. Too bad because it was not the substantial portion that I was anticipating; it was a one inch or less cube of salmon! No mention of that on the menu. Had I known, I’d’ve ordered several. But I was so full of rice, I guess it didn’t matter. As for whatever seafood was to be found in any of the dishes, it was less than optimal. I have enjoyed Japanese food in many different restaurants, both in Ontario and in locations around the world. This restaurant does not stand up to any of them. We actually came here on the recommendation of a local young woman. (What was she thinking!) Service? Pleasant enough wait person, but not very professional. We were never asked if we wanted drinks of any sort, though water was served. Washroom is dark. Clean enough, but could do with some updating. (Not sure why, but the front door of the restaurant is unusually heavy.) If this is "the best" sushi in the area, as I read somewhere on the 'Net, well, some people just don't get out much. Don't bother.

I have been to this restaurant a few times and everything used to be acceptably fine until my most recent visit. They now serve the most expensive all-you-can-eat lunch in Guelph, the menu has shrunk leaving you with very limited options, and the quality of food has also deteriorated: soy sauce was watery and salty, tempura batter was extremely salty, half of the hot dishes was served cold, and the list goes on. I vomited immediately after the meal, which marked my last visit to Kisara Sushi.

I have been here several times as I have enjoyed the sushi and all you can eat menu and my kids have always enjoyed lunch here as well. Decided to take my mom and son for lunch today - all was going great, until I was reprimanded by the chef for my son not finishing all the rice with his sushi. Informed I would be charged $1 dollar per item my 4 year old does not finish. I just paid $50 for lunch for three people and this is the treatment we received. There are so many other great all you can eat sushi places in town, I will not be returning.

Um bom restaurante, limpo e com bom atendimento. Não tem tanta variedade, mais tudo que servem é uma delicia e com um preço muito em conta.

Love coming here for a la carte with my boyfriend or with my family! I always get their Korean dishes (pork bone soup and bibimbap) or bento boxes.
