Not many places you can share your dinner table with the cows. If you want good Berner Oberland food, this is a great place to go. I went here with a group of 18 colleagues for a fondue dinner and was impressed. The dinning room is in a barn. It's separated from the cows by solid plate-glass windows, so no need to worry about offensive odors. The staff is helpful and pleasant, in a Swiss-German sort of way. If you as... View all feedback.
I was prepared to dine with the cows and it was very good and very fun. We visited on a weekday in February and got there early for lunch. The fondue was very good their bread was excellent. We had wine with our fondue and after lunch hot tea and some dessert. The drive was beautiful and you can also see people skiing right beside the barn. Don't expect a large selection of items on the menu however, what they offer is very good!
We went here for lunch on a Saturday with friends. We went in late morning to check if we needed a reservation...while at first, we were greeted by one of the family owners, who stated that the place would be completely full for lunch (high ski season, naturally). When we seemed really disappointed, they made a way to fit us in for four adults with a baby. Really, kind and personable people who speak just Swiss German. The lunch and restaurant itself was beyond what we could have hoped for. You sit in a newly, entirely wood renovated barn with plexiglass behind the tables overlooking the cow stalls and cows. The tables are set up family style, so there is a good chance you will share your table with another group. The family members are stirring the fondue in a massive pot on the stove in the kitchen. The food - utterly delicious. The fondue - creamy, heavy on the kirsch, served with plentiful baskets of bread. The dried meat plates are also made to a high quality with top notch dried meats. After your meal, have a real Swiss German "kaffee fertig" (black coffee mixed with schnapps and whipped cream). We loved this place so much - if you are craving real Swiss German alpine charm, traditional home-cooked food, reasonable places, and a unique, cozy, family-friendly atmosphere (while looking at the cows!), this is without a doubt the place to go.
Best cheese in Gstaad. Enjoy a wonderful raclette or fondue while watching the calves and cow in their immaculate barn. One of our families favorite evenings. Highly recommend this spot for young and old. Have an apero here après skiing.
Loved this place ! What a character spot - you enjoy typical Swiss fare while looking through a window into a working dairy shed. It's pretty funny because you do actually look at the cows bums!! But that in its self adds to the atmosphere. Served by a very traditional Swiss family - it's a lovely reminder that despite the glitz and glamour of Gstaad it is the home to a farming community who have inhabited the valley for hundreds of years. Do it at least once!!!
At the start of the slope's in the valley you find this little restaurant, half barn with cows and calfs on the otherside of a window and simple, but typical Swiss food in the restaurant. Cheese, hot and cold and tried meat are the key plates. A good idea, for most of the meals you can order full or half portions. First time visitors to Switzerland can approach local gastronomy by little steps. Prices are reasonable.
