It is one of my favorite places. A small Walser hamlet in the Alps which can be reached by walking for 20-30 minutes on a steep path. Simple mountain food served by nice people. It is possible and highly advised to sleep there.
We arrived at the refuge shortly after a group from the previous reviewer Hedonisitic Hiking had just settled in. Fortunately there was still a table free so we sat down and the lady serving said we would have to wait a few minutes as she was serving the group. As it was raining outside and we were in no hurry we didn't mind. We both had the polenta with beef stew accompanied by a beer. I had a piece of apple cake as well. The polenta dish was excellent. We enjoyed our stay here as there was a nice atmosphere in the hut with the group there. The refuge has a rustic feel to it and it is a great stopover for lunch so its well worth incorporating it into one of your walks if in the area.
I have taken several groups to eat at this refuge as part of a hike from Gressoney La Trinite to Gressoney Saint Jean. Danila and Roberto are really friendly and the food is wonderful. Local meats and cheeses served with delicious chutneys from a small providore in the valley. The home-made gnochetti is also excellent, a real local speciality. Make sure you leave room for pudding too!
