Description

At Mr. Salsa's new location, diners can enjoy a festive atmosphere with ample seating and a welcoming vibe. While some menu items, like the barbacoa tacos and fajitas, receive praise for freshness and flavor, others, such as the chimichanga and salsa, leave guests wanting more. The service is generally friendly, though experiences can vary, with some staff displaying attitude when mistakes occur. Overall, Mr. Salsa offers a blend of enjoyable dishes and cozy ambiance, making it a suitable choice for casual dining, though it may not fully satisfy those seeking authentic Mexican cuisine.

3.5 rounding up since I only have one experience here. For being called Mr. Salsa, for me, the salsa was very bland. Even the spicy version (which I'm glad they offer). The chips seemed fresh though and are on the thicker/crunchy side. I ordered the barbacoa tacos with corn shells they come with the standard onion and cilantro topping. I actually thought these were pretty good once i added a few tBsps of salsa to keep it from being dry. By barbacoa, it's shredded beef (I know in some places it is beef cheek, I was happy it was not here). I'd love to see more street taco offerings and some more flavorful salsa, but if I ended up back here, I wouldn't be mad.

I 'm not Latina and I make Mexican food 100 times better at home! But I am Texan, so I know how real, good Mexican food should taste and look like. Ordered Chimichanga and quesadilla. Let me point out that traditional chimichanga is shaped usually like a burrito and deep fried to a CRISP outer shell. Theirs was flat, square, and soft. It tasted bland and boring, with some kind of awful thin white (cheese? sauce on top. Yes, I returned it. I thought the quesadilla would be better: not. It, too, was super boring and the shrimp tasted like it was straight from the farm-raised water: that 's because it was almost raw. There was barely any sour cream and guacamole on my plate: I had to find the latter under my mound of lettuce (you know, the cheap stuff . When the I told the young manager about all of this, his reply was that 's the allotted portion and I finished his sentence with ... yes, at THIS restaurant. Do yourself a favor: go to Farmhouse or Chicora Alley in TR, or the Mexican chain restaurants.

We were in the area and decided to stop in for a drink and a snack. We sat at the bar and it looked very outdated. The bartender was friendly but just seemed like she had a lot going on in a very non busy restaurant. My margarita was just warm premade mix sitting on top of the counter. The chips were stale. The food wasn’t that bad! We ordered a shot and it came in a red solo cup? Honestly think they should just splurge for shot glasses. The main thing that threw us off was the $3 for a side of pico and $2 for a side of sour cream. Probably wouldn’t choose to eat here again.
