What User doesn't like about Cafe El Estanco:
We had many recommendations to go here so went on a Friday night which happens to be 'Pizza Night '. There were only about 6 selections and my pizza base was burnt and quite bitter my partner 's garlic prawn pizza had no garlic taste ...was quite bland. We informed the waitress who was sorry but that was it, with no deduction off the bill, or any food offer to make up for the 'burnt offerings ' very poor! I also thin... View all feedback.
This place is too divine for words. NO DUD DISHES. Just amazing food full stop. Such a treat for NZers finally being able to return to this beautiful place. Thank you to all the lovely staff for making it to special x
Firstly, nice venue. Food presented nice, however expensive for quantity and quality. Coffee overpriced and nothing to rave home about. Experience and followup with ‘management’ terrible! Went for mother’s birthday and had reserved a table prior for (which also gave my phone number...to venue Arrived to a nearly empty venue and seated. Ordered coffees to begin with, with a waiter approaching from behind without notifying the table and lent to place coffee down, accidentally spilling it all over a guest. Minimal apology and left (probably embarrassed) without even addressing the situation. We waited for a proactive staff member to assist us in cleaning the spill, only to watch the waiter continue to dry cups behind the counter. We had to ASK for the spill to be cleaned!!! Which was a half assed effort. Let alone we could have been moved to a different table due to the low number of patrons. No one even told us that a replacement coffee would be made nor how we would be compensated for our guest to sit in dripping coffee. However we decided to stay to celebrate our mother’s Upon receiving our meals after a wait, we consumed the small portioned overpriced meals. My sister-in-law brother approached the counter to pay for her families meals adult and child meals coffees) in which the waiter said the “kids meals and coffees are paid for” due to the incident. They clarified this multiple times and we’re told only to pay for the adult meals. My mother then approached the counter to pay for the remainder of the outstanding bill, which she did so. After leaving the venue later I received a phone call from our table waiter to say that we “left without paying for the kids meals and coffees” in which I replied that my sister-in-law clarified multiple times with the cashier and my mother paid the remaining bill. This was disputed back and fourth until I requested to speak to the manager! The manager (who I might add was extremely rude and aggressive, no wonder her staff aren’t honest with her of fear of the retaliation) accused us of leaving without paying for the “kids meals”, that she didn’t authorise the discount for the “incident”, (let alone she didn’t come over and apologise for the incident on behalf of the waiter, or communicate remittance- ignorance is bliss and that we need to pay. Also the managed said the waiter responsible was “on the verge of tears”. As a customer it is not my responsibility to ensure that all of the consumed items are on the bill, and that if their staff member has insisted multiple times that the “kids meals and coffees” were compensated for the incident, we (like anyone else) accepted this. Then to make excuses for your staffs inability to take responsibility, and blame the customer. Once you leave a venue, to be phoned and verbally harassed to the point where I was hung up on by someone who should be a manager and role model to her staff is absolutely not acceptable. Looking forward to hearing a reply from Abbie.
After attending new restaurant El Estanco in Greenock on Saturday for mother in laws birthday breakfast we were left disappointed and bewildered by lack of customer service reflected in staff and management attitudes. An initial accidental coffee spill was no problem at all however...we had to call for someone to bring a mop instead of one of the girls proactively coming to clean up and weren’t told if a new cold drip coffee would be made. This was resolved and not a big deal as staff are mostly young girls who we understand are still learning and when clarified a new coffee was made, meals took over mins however this wasn’t the biggest issue. When approaching the counter to pay for theirs meals and those of their kids my brother in law and wife were advised that the kids meals had ‘been paid for’ kindly after the coffee spill. My mother in law paid the balance of the bill and after leaving the restaurant content my partner received a call from our waitress Emilia I believe, advising that the kids meals hadn’t been paid for. When my partner advised what we had been told this was disputed until she asked to speak to manager. Manager Abbey continued the same line of harassment going around in circles basically accusing us of leaving without paying and when advised it is not up to us to provide a bill correctly the reply was ‘customers like you’ before being hung up on. I don’t understand how customers are responsible for the incompetence of staff mistakes in arranging a bill and then to be harassed over the phone for another mins for in kids meals after spending over including a birthday cake was unacceptable. We won’t be back.
Hadn't heard about El Estanco despite living not far away so wasn't sure what to expect but pleasingly we had a great lunch. Great service and delicious food for very reasonable prices. The charred leek was a standout dish for us and the Sangria was...delicious. Family friendly and tables well spaced out for a more intimate experience. Would definitely be back!
Service excellent atmosphere excellent food we're vegetarians and my partner is such a great cook that going out to a restaurant is often unrewarding however the food at El Estanco was just beautiful It's two months since we visited so I can't specifically remember...what we ate apart from it being the vegetarian plate of the day but we were both titillated, surprised and impressed by the delicious food. Thanks El Estanco! We look forward to the next visit.
