What Stephanie F doesn't like about David Wong's Chinese:
Ever since the restaurant changed ownership, it seems to be going downhill. The quality of the food has deteriorated, as my broccoli and beef dish was too salty and tasted fishy. It's disappointing because I used to enjoy eating here for lunch and getting takeout for my family. Ever since the pandemic and change in management, things just aren't the same. Our group of 14 was traveling through California and searching for a good restaurant in Stockton after hiking in Yosemite. Dave Wong's was fantastic in providing us with our own private room, which was perfect for a couple celebrating their 30th anniversary. It was conveniently located near the highway, making it easy for us to stop by. Despite our large group, the service and food were incredible. My wife and I shared the delicious Kung Pao chicken and Mongolian beef. However, the highlight of the meal was the hot and sour soup, which was excellent. They even made a special ice cream dessert for the couple celebrating their anniversary. Overall, it was a great meal that we all enjoyed.
The dining experience is truly exceptional and the atmosphere is fantastic. It never fails to impress.
Had the Mongolian Beef Lunch, Broccoli Beef and an appetizer of egg rolls. We use to frequent Dave Wongs before Covid and this was the first and last time back. Broccoli had a fish taste, rice was hard in some areas and mushy in others. Egg rolls were greasy and soggy like they were reheated. Service was poor. Sad to see such a nice restaurant decline.
Stopped for lunch and tried the mixed dish plates which is a fun way to sample what they make. Some dishes were fantastic (the fried rice, the garlic fried chicken), the szechuan dishes though lacked a lot of the spice and flavor. Still if you are sample multiple dishes you will get more good than bad.
The first time we ate at this restaurant it was highly disappointing. It might have been secondary to the sauces that were put on the items we ordered but it’s a little bit hard to tell if it was just a glitch from the restaurant. This time was much better. We enjoyed chow mein a number of the appetizers and the shrimp. Everything was much better and much better prepared. Unfortunately the service was absolutely terrible we didn’t get one of the appetizers until we were halfway through our mealAnd drinks were very late and had to be reminded several times. I don’t see how this is one of the best restaurants in Stockton.
