You should definitely make a reservation if you want a good spot for the races, as many people leave right after the races end. Additionally, I found the food to be quite pricey. One fun tip I can share is that the bar area is where the jockeys, owners, and trainers gather during the races. You might pick up some insider tips if you happen to chat with the right person! I've been visiting this restaurant for five years. The food used to be enjoyable, but now it's quite disappointing. It's hard to even have a proper drink. The waitstaff is constantly running from one side of the dining room to the other. There are long waits for tables, which is frustrating, especially when there are so many empty tables available. What a disappointment from past visits, and now I know why there were so few people dining on yesterday for Thanksgiving dinner. In the past the place was always filled with patrons. Staff said upfront when we made the reservations that the Thanksgiving buffet would now include a plated entree and sides and the salads/dessert tables would be buffet. No problem, or so we thought. The plated entrees looked like they were thrown together by a hassled, hurried and overworked diner cook. Portions were ample (except for the salmon which was the size of a deck of cards), but the turkey breast was very dry and the mashed potatoes were a massive lump of flavorless starch. When the server set a square plate down on the table we had to ask what it was; she said it was the plated sides. I asked her again what it was/what was on it, and she was unable to say what exactly was on the plate. Everything was lumped together and mixed up into a disgusting pile of food. The best we could guess is that there were mashed sweet potatoes, green beans with onions and Brussels sprouts. Because I have many food allergies I was afraid to eat any of the mess. Another member of our party tried the green beans but had to spit it out because it tasted off. The salad and dessert buffets met expectations, but overall this was a very disappointing experience. Next year we will find a better place for Thanksgiving dinner.
I've been visiting this restaurant for five years, and I used to enjoy the food. Unfortunately, it's now become quite disappointing. They can't even make drinks correctly anymore. The waitstaff seem overwhelmed, running back and forth across the dining room to serve tables, which is frustrating to watch. There are plenty of empty tables, so it's clear that the restaurant could use more staff to accommodate the customers who have chosen to dine here. Because of this lack of attention to customer service, my friends and I have decided not to return.
Hoping for a redeeming cocktail experience? Unfortunately, that didn’t happen either. The Old Fashioned was mostly ice and tasted like just whiskey with a muddled maraschino cherry. I then ordered a dirty martini and waited a staggering 20 minutes for it. I’m giving two stars strictly for the nostalgia of returning to the races, but the food and drink experience deserves zero stars.
Excellent food. Superb service. Wait or was extremely helpful pleasant and a great conversationist.
Having birthday dinners at this restaurant is somewhat of a tradition in our family. So for our daughter's 35th we made a reservation for 6. We really like to sit by the windows for the best view of the track, I had requested this on the reservation and we were accommodated. The seating was very comfortable. If you go, don't be in a hurry because service is slow. But we go to bet on the horses and plan to sit there for a while anyway, in fact we were at our table from 6 pm to 9 pm. I can't rave about the food but it wasn't bad either. It's more expensive than what we would pay for similar meals at local restaurants. Unfortunately my son-in-law was starving and they brought him the wrong meal so most of us were done eating by the time this was corrected. But we go more for a fun evening of placing a few $2 bets on horses than the actual meal. We'll go back.
