Simonini Gourmet - Granger
Simonini Gourmet
Description
Nestled in South Bend, this charming Italian restaurant earned accolades for its authentic, house-made pasta and fresh, flavorful dishes like linguine with grilled salmon, chicken Marsala, and arancini. Guests praised the intimate atmosphere, impeccable service, and standout desserts such as tiramisu and crème brûlée, making it ideal for romantic evenings or family meals. Despite minor service hiccups, the warm hospitality and high-quality food left a lasting impression. Sadly, this beloved local gem, with roots dating back to early 1900s Chicago, has since closed, leaving a void in the Michiana area's Italian dining scene.
Feedback
I was visiting from the city and had a craving for Italian food. I’m so glad we discovered this restaurant. Everything is fresh, and they make their own pasta. We ordered the Arancini, Ravioli, and Chicken Marsala, and I can honestly say it was some of the best food I've ever had.
So far, this is the best Italian restaurant we've discovered in South Bend. We arrived late in the evening, and despite not having a reservation, they accommodated us wonderfully. The pasta was fresh, the salad was delicious, and the dessert was good. The service was outstanding, and we appreciate their courteousness. We definitely plan to return, as it felt like home. Looking forward to the next football season!
Updated rating (3/9/22): The restaurant is CLOSED and the space is now for rent. What a disappointment. ————— Previous review: This was a delightful Italian restaurant with a small, cozy dining area (be sure to make a reservation) known for its fantastic house-made pasta. Don't skip dessert; you won't regret it! The crème brûlée and tiramisu were two of my favorites. The restaurant has a fascinating history, originally located in Chicago since the early 1900s. The family relocated to the Granger area and opened this location in 2014. Having tried Italian cuisine at many restaurants throughout Chicago, I can confidently say this place was a gem and the best Italian restaurant in the Michiana area.
Great atmosphere! Best Family owned Italian Restaurant. Great wine selection. Food is outstanding!
What a gem of a gastronomic delight! Appetizer to dessert was absolutely impeccable! The waitress was personable but unobtrusive. The food was second to none and the atmosphere was delightful for such a wonderfully intimate establishment. They had me at the door with the troughs of fresh basil! Cannot wait to get back to South Bend to shovel more delicious items from the menu into my face! Bringing friends this time! Deliziosa!
