The Candied Yam - Grand Rapids

We're from Kalamazoo and have visited a couple of times. We truly enjoyed the food, and the staff even remembered us. The food is fantastic—I’ve already recommended it to others! Food rating: 5/5

I just had my first experience with The Candied Yam, and I ordered fried chicken along with mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. The chicken was fantastic—not overly breaded, and the seasoning was spot on. I'm definitely planning to come back to try the perch next time! I also believe the pricing is quite reasonable given the portion sizes. I was too full to sample the cornbread, but I’ll warm it up and enjoy it tomorrow.

I absolutely love this restaurant! The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is consistently fresh and delicious. As pescatarians, we really enjoy the fish dishes, which come with two sides. This time, I chose mac and cheese and yams. They also serve amazing sweet potato cornbread. I recently learned that they offer dinner and show packages with DeVos. You can dine there first, and then they provide shuttle service to DeVos for the show, bringing you back to your car at the restaurant afterward. It's a fantastic experience!

The atmosphere and service was great. But the food is not the best mainly the sides. No cheese flavor on the mac cheese. Cabbage collard greens were not seasoned very bland. Meatloaf was dry no flavor. The cornbread and yams were ok.Food: 1/5

Great food and friendly service! Awesome if you’re looking for a fast, great lunch that doesn’t sacrifice on comfort or flavor. Not the fanciest of utensils, but it fits the food well. Would come again!
