Their chocolate custard was so good and creamy. It had real chocolate chunks and homemade on site. The wait was a little longer than we liked, but the custard was worth the wait. I wish we would have gotten the pizza next door! Apple Gorgonzola looks so good!!! View all feedback.
What Michael Hecker doesn't like about Sydney's Frozen Custard:
This was our first time to try Sydney's since it was just the two of us. We walked away last time when we came with our children cause it is pricey for a large family/group. If you want a good meal at a good price then try the Blue Water Cafe only a few blocks away. We did try the large wood fired pizza which was very good but too small for two people. The custard was good but also too pricey- $7 for only one dip. Th... View all feedback.
Definitely one of our favorite stops we took along our North Shore trip. We almost didn't go because it was getting late, but I was glad we decided to make a quick stop! I didn't have the food so I can't speak to that, but the frozen custard was incredible. So creamy and delicious! We asked the cashier what a popular signature item is and she suggested the Coffee Toffee. The flavor is coffee mixed with Heath bar. The coffee flavor wasn't very pronounced which I didn't mind. Every bite of this was dreamy! I loved that each mouthful had a crunch from the Heath bar. We asked for a small. The servings are much smaller than other traditional frozen custard shops. This size felt more like a kids size for us (see photo for hand comparison . I was kind of sad because my husband and I split it and we ended up finishing it so fast while still wanting more. Haha! I guess next time we will have to each order our own. ;
Legal highway robbery. Can they charge the prices they charge? Absolutely. Is the food remotely worth it based on flavor, quality or originality? Absolutely not. Choices for quick food are limited because of the remote nature of the area, but this is one place I've been to twice and remembered instantly why I said I wouldn't go back the first time. A single scoop sunday, a small chocolate shake that was mostly whip cream and a pepperoni pizza ran us $40. Grand Marais is littered with tourists so you can expect tourist pricing, but I suggest you spend your tourist money at any of the other eateries that are open. This one isn't worth it.
Sydney 's gets my vote as a top notch Grand Marais casual eatery. I was blown away by the care, kindness and service we recently received here, which was on top of the delicious pizza with a nice crisp thin crust and scrumptious custard dessert. Tonight our artist 's group held a private party here and the place was stuffed with a hundred or so of us all jostling for a turn at pizza, custard, and drinks. Sydney 's team didn 't bat an eye, they just kept the hot pizzas coming with good cheer. When the owner noticed I wasn 't eating, he good naturedly asked if I were too shy. When I replied that I couldn 't eat gluten, he said, I can make you a gluten-free pizza! Can you eat dairy? No to that too. He said, Not a problem. I 'll make it dairy free too. Honestly, I was touched beyond belief at the care and kindness afforded to me without my even asking. My special pizza was wonderful and obviously made with care. The fact that someone took time to ask why I wasn 't eating in a restaurant completely FULL of hungry people...well, I could cry. That kind of concern just isn 't something you 'd expect to happen today. Bottom line: Sydney 's is a wonderful eatery led, managed and staffed by some amazingly great people. Thank YOU to Sydney 's 1000 times over.
Great place to order a pizza and sit on the patio or rooftop. EXCELLENT views of Superior. The wood fired pizzas are very originaf and delicious! We had the Barbarian and really enjoyed the unusual combination of Gyro meat, Andouille Sausage, Feta, and Pepperoni. Crust was extremely thin and light enough to compliment the delicious ingredients. Well worth the price considering the quality toppings. Will definitely be back.
Though the prices are quite a bit higher this year, 2022, than last. The food, especially the pizza is great. Though as a former worker, there are things that I would hope to see changed within the future. It still makes for good food, and a rather fun place to work. Best of luck to you guys there, don't try to poison someone's food again...
