My husband and I just got back from our trip to Wildcatter! It was our 10-year anniversary and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, particularly the reception team and John, who helped us with our activities. We highly recommend this place and plan to come back soon with our kids! What User doesn't like about Wildcatter Ranch Resort:
We had reservations at the steakhouse but ended up waiting an hour for our food. The waitress informed us that our food had been given to someone else. Due to this mix-up, we were given "larger portions" of low-quality steaks. We both felt sick after eating there.
The amenities at the hotel were great, but they also come with a hefty price tag. It would be better to buy a day pass to enjoy activities elsewhere, sav... View all feedback.
After a long trip and we are made to feel welcome, adi on the reception very helpful and courteous, we had a king cabin suite that was super, clean and all they needed, with veranda and a few rocking chairs, done riding this morning, jon and clint brilliant, also had great meal at the Steak house restaurant with staff really helpful and courteous. thanks to chandler and the other staff there. they have a beautiful pool, although quite cold, but refreshing with great view. they have gone out of their way to help us have a great stay and it is worth coming from the U.K to experience a real life ranch with rides and other activities.
We had a great girls trip here. The horseback riding with Clint and Abby was great. The Sunset Ride was amazing. The cabin suites were beautiful.
The views are beautiful on the outskirts of West Texas near Possum Kingdom Lake. While the people are kind, and the service is Satisfactory, the rooms are small and need updating as well as deep cleaned. There were no towels in the bathroom, but the sink and shower did drain properly. The Wildcatter restaurant was terrible. We frequented the restaurant for special occasions many times in the past, pre-pandemic. There was very little help, wine selection was limited the food was frozen or pre-packaged, (wilted lettuce) steak was under cooked (still cold) we sent it back and was returned still undercooked. The baked potato was only warm (microwaved) and not prepared to specification the first time around, it was just plain bad. When we asked to speak to a manager we were told there wasn't a manger on the property, nor anyone in charge to speak to. Our young server did her best. We asked to settle up, thinking we may be charged for just drinks and salad. We were charged for the total amount, even when we said we just couldn't eat what was served. We cut the steak up to take home to our dogs. I seldom post reviews, especially negative reviews but I made an exception in this case. All in all we were really disappointed?
This venue was booked for a family wedding. The venue was absolutely gorgeous and the house was great. Just be aware that there are many add on costs. Everything is extra. Prior to signing anything, verify all food costs, costs for lighting fire pits, costs for renting a golf cart and the costs of drink. The staff at the wedding was nice and friendly, but the management was harder to work with. We were served expired beer at the rehearsal dinner. When we reached out to the COO, Denise, she told us that we can’t go by the expired labels on the beer. We rented the homestead and the beds were horrible.
Over the last 5 years, we’ve visited Wildcatter as a relaxing, quick escape from the city. This trip was far from relaxing and extremely disappointing. We were unable to book any activities. Nothing, nada. When asked why, I was told “u have to book these 5 months in advance!” Are you serious? We never booked activities in advance during previous stays. When asked if the hotel was at capacity, I was told no we aren’t full, but we still can’t provide activities to guests. If so you should put a disclaimer on your website stating all you get is a room and a view of the cows. If so, better off staying at the Best Western. Moreover, the staff seemed stressed and disorganized. It took 30 minutes for us to receive our salads at dinner. The waitress then forgot to bring our quail appetizer as well. Before we departed, we attempted to take a quick dip in the pool at 10AM, yet it was locked even though the sign states it opens at 9 AM. We had to track down a cleaner to unlock it as no one ever answered the front desk phone. After voicing our disappointment and asking for a discount, management said no and that they can’t afford to hire enough to fully support operations. Sorry to hear, yet you are obviously being deceptive in your marketing if you can’t support activities that previously were readily available in the past. A list of issues is as follows: No activities available for 48 hours No bath robes available last year) No milk at breakfast Dinner order mixup No one ever answers front desk phone In conclusion this is now a tourist trap and no longer worth the stay. If you want a ranch with family friendly activities try other options like Rough Creek that guarantee activities in your stay.
