Looking for somewhere to eat after a journey, but knew we were cutting it a bit fine for time, but found this place around 20 minutes before last food order. Staff were busy, being a bank holiday weekend, but they were so helpful and cheerful. The food was great and the tables etc clean, not like in some pubs where the tables are sticky. It was a great atmosphere and would definitely go back if we're ever in Gosport... View all feedback.
What sjef4d doesn't like about The Castle Tavern:
Very disappointed I’m afraid. Been going here for years and the Sunday lunches have always been amazing. This time the beef was thick and tough and the veg hard. Maybe they’ve changed supplier for the beef as it’s in the past it’s always been beautifully tender. View all feedback.
I have had the pleasure of eating here several times, and never had a bad meal. Everything is clearly home made, freshly cooked, well presented served with a smile. Also, excellent prices great value for money. I attended a Christmas meal here with friends last night, really enjoyed it. I’d like to thank all the staff for their hard work, for making it such a lovely evening.
We always receive a warm welcome at this restaurant and the food is consistently amazing. The pub food is made with care and we are regular customers there. Highly recommend it.
I was waiting for the Gosport Ferry and needed to catch up on some work emails and, as it was a Friday and I'd just had fish chips, decided to pop into the Castle Tavern to do catch up and have a pint whilst I worked on my laptop. The young lady who served me, Alesha, couldn't have been more helpful, professional and polite. After I'd been served and sat down, I noticed my battery was low, but also that all the plug sockets had been blocked up with plug in child protectors. I asked if there were any sockets I could use and was informed that it was not permitted for customers to plug in their mobile phones or lap tops. I asked Alesha, bless her, if I could speak to the owner and was informed that she was abroad on holiday. In hindsight, I wish I'd insisted and asked for her number, nevertheless, as I felt the restriction on plug sockets was rather unreasonable, especially given the drink prices seemed to be quite high. So, my message to the Landlady of the Castle Tavern is this: If you are happy for customers to come to your pub and spend their hard earned cash on food and drinks etc., yet begrudge them the use of your plug sockets to charge laptops and phones, don't be surprised if your customers form the perception that you have allowed your avarice to cloud your judgement. Bizarrely, you provide free wifi, but not electricity? It very much appears that you have got your priorities the wrong way round and put your personal gain above the interests of your clientele. I'm afraid, this protrays you in a rather unsavoury light and highlights what appears to be an unfortunate and unpleasnat feature of your character, which I hope you will refllect on and adjust. Your staff are a credit to you I only hope you will have the dignity and humility to reciprocate and be a credit to them and your customers. Thank you.
We called in for a drink and something to eat after a day out at the submarine museum, we ordered drinks but noticed all tables reserved, we did mention to the lady at the bar who said we could use one of the tables as there was still an hour and half before the booking. We both had a Sunday roast which was delicious, hot, fresh vegetable plenty of it. Just amazing and glad we walked in.
