Because I'm not a big cake eater, I can't say anything about the cake selection, but the cheese plate is really delicious. Prices are acceptable for quality and selection:

La... read more Görlitz is a beautiful city that miraculously survived destruction in World War II, while Dresden received the wrath of the British and American bombardment. Later, it was not remade by the Soviet bloc East German government due to insufficient funding, which would have demolished many of its old buildings (by then seriously distressed). Consequently it became the best preserved example of German Baroque architecture in the country. The Espresso Bar Cafe Kränzel is a jewel of a place that epitomizes the charming character of Görlitz. It is located in one of the best areas of the city in fact the historic core. If you are walking between the Untermarkt (the older and smaller market square) and the church of Sts. Peter and Paul (a glorious architectural colossus), your likely path will be on the street called Neissstrasse. That would bring you directly to the Cafe, at the corner with the street Kränzelstrasse. The proprietor of the Cafe is a wonderful person. I learned that he, a bright artistic type who is quite personable, studied the art of coffee (in its many magnificent varieties) in Italy, perhaps the best place to learn all about it. Anyone who visits this place will feel most welcome, and certainly they will be treated to some of the best offerings available in this lovely city. The Cafe Kränzel is a great part of discovering the wonders of Görlitz.

Oh, and not forget to mention the nice staff and cosy atmosphere with a fire side during winter time. They also offer a brunch menu on the first and third Sunday of the month (which I didn't get a chance to try)

The small café in the historic old town with comfortable facilities in a bar room, a fireplace heated vault cellar and the courtyard with a decorative garden offers the richest selection of coffee drinks in Görlitz from the best Illy bean and small, fine selection of cakes and dishes prepared by yourself. In addition, Sunday brunch takes place regularly and events can be booked. I am here regularly and always lead my guests to the destination. In the season we have to wait for free space, but this is never boring in the most charming corner of Görlitz.
