When I arrived at J&L around 1 pm, the place was bustling. Luckily, I managed to find a spot at the counter. There's a large dry erase board showcasing the daily specials, and I decided on the egg salad sandwich along with a cup of veggie beef soup. The soup tasted homemade and was excellent (a few drops of green Tabasco added a nice kick). However, the egg salad was a bit sweet for my liking, as it seemed they might have used Miracle Whip or a similar product instead of traditional mayo. I noticed a hot roast beef sandwich come out, and the portion looked generous, although the gravy had an odd hue, possibly from a lot of caramel coloring (think Kitchen Bouquet or a brown gravy mix from Sysco). Nevertheless, the service was quick and friendly. By the time I finished, the lunch rush had subsided, indicating they’re well-equipped to handle high traffic. J&L is definitely a refreshing change from the typical fast food options available.

It’s located next to a gas station, a bit off the interstate. I ordered coffee, two eggs over easy, hash browns, and whole wheat toast. What I got was two eggs over easy, mushy, unbrowned potatoes, whole wheat bread, and a single cup of coffee with no refills offered. The breakfast was disappointing, and the service was lacking at this unremarkable gas station café. I won’t be returning for another meal here.

I enjoyed hanging out here twice in June, both times opt... read more This is a fantastic café with excellent staff and incredible food. Their bacon is absolutely delicious. I enjoyed hanging out here twice in June, both times opting for their bacon and eggs breakfast. It has been in operation for 28 years and was taken over by a former employee eight years ago. It's a charming family-owned business. I highly recommend it!
