While some issues with service, such as forgotten drink orders and cold fries, were mentioned in a couple of reviews, the majority of diners praised the food quality, atmosphere, and friendly service. The menu offerings, including the hot brown, country fried steak, and desserts like banana pudding and sugar creme pie, were highlighted as exceptional. The restaurant's longstanding reputation for serving great southern dishes and its charming gift shop/general store were also mentioned as reasons to visit. Overall, despite some minor hiccups, The Whistle Stop seems to be a favorite spot for those seeking traditional homemade meals in a nostalgic setting.
Hands down one of the best places around for some good southern cooking! They've been around for 40+ years and are well known to locals as a great place to eat. The menu is wonderful and the dishes homemade. There's even a little gift shop/general store inside for those looking for that souvenir.
This place has ah-mazing food. The building is obviously old, but well maintained. You feel like you're somewhere like Ma Ingall's restaurant in Little House on the Prairie or another restaurant in an old movie. You can feel the story around you. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food was made fresh to order. It wasn't all done before that you throw into a microwave, like some chain restaurants too. They needed time to prepare our food for perfection. My husband said his burger was the best burger he had in a year. He even made delicious food at dinner. Was it a little more pricier than I prefer? Yeah, but it's worth the money. If you are in the distance, you have to make this a stop for a fresh, homemade meal.
Immediately walking in the host was welcome and welcomed us immediately. She forced us, and when we were gone, she made sure to welcome us again. There were also two young guys who were hosting. They were very well dressed and mature. Our server was very friendly, and my friend and I both have a Chicken Tender Basket. The chicken was fresh, high quality and obviously not frozen. The bread was of course ahhh-mazing! I have a page of Ranch that was soooo good! The gift shop has some small nice things for Christmas, and was beautifully decorated. The building itself was so tidy. In any case it is worth making the trip to this small town, we will definitely be back!
Love this place! The atmosphere is relaxed, historical, with farm cooking. It is usually busy, but also the city in which it sits is amazing shops buggy rides whole date night vibe so you can explore during your waiting. My husband and I crowned this place years ago and I was never disappointed. in the pictures we had the combo appetizers, my husband had the caboose burger and I had added the spinach salad chicken. This coming weekend is the cities falling festival. October 16 Whistle Stop is in the center of Glendale and this small town will be Poppin
The Whistle Stop is a rewarding journey from I-65 when you travel in the Louisville/Elizabethtown region. Her Pot Roast was TO THE FOR (see the attached picture). The adjacent antique shops had everything reasonably priced. I pray everyone will see this region before the new Li-ion battery changes everything.
