The food was good, but not remarkable—just decent. The bread was a letdown; I expected warm sourdough at a "coastal" fishing house, but instead, they served something resembling sweet Hawaiian rolls with a delicious butter and crumble mixture. What User doesn't like about Jax Fish House Oyster Glendale:
We dined on NYE. Hostesses need to be checking reservation special requests. I even called ahead to make sure my request would be met. We both had the NYE dinner menu beef tartare (this was good but would have liked less chunky beef, traditional style), shrimp appetizer, crab stuffed sole (crab was weak, it was all stringy and mashed up), scallops, lobster bisque, dessert (pudding was delicious, good chocolate desser... The oysters were brilliant, the rest of my meal was nothing to inspire. not sure we're back.
We were able to book Jax for New Year's eve dinner at the last minute so didn't know what to expect. We ended up loving the food and the service by Zack! I had the blacked catfish and my wife had the salmon and both were delicious! I highly recommend the traditional garlic and butter muscles for an appetizer.
Food was imaginative and well prepared but cold by the time it arrived.
Our server was great, I think his name was Ethane. He was great.
Overall experience was very positive and pleasant. Greeted warmly at the entrance, and directed to bar as it was busy, but our dinner partners arrived first. Nice, energetic and friendly crowd. Server Jax (Don) was very engaging, with a good sense of humor. Only down side is that Jax ran out of bread, dinner as at 7:00. Wife and friend loved the oysters, which is saying something because my wife just started eating them, so good on Jax. Very much enjoyed this visit, it was our second in a couple of months. Will be back soon.
