After a long walk we were ready to eat and decided to try The Great Provider rather than going back to the busyness of Acland. The food was a bit dearer than others around St Kilda but it was tasty and it was a comfortable place to watch the comings and goings around the marina. What Sonya Lesch doesn't like about The Great Provider:
Went for Saturday morning breakfast at 0800 to find an open, empty restaurant. In spite of extensive breakfast menu, staff told us that only coffee and cake was being served! View all feedback.

We held a function out on the decking area of the Great Provider after being double booked elsewhere. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Rollo and his team pulled together our function in a matter of days. The function space overlooks the Marina with open glass windows creating a relaxed but classy space. We went with a canapes and drinks package and despite our myriad of dietary requirements, Rollo ensured there was more than enough food for everyone. The staff were very attentive to our party's needs and the customer service they offered was second to none.A big thanks to the Great Provider!
Yesterday my dear friend and I decided on a lunch meal somewhere close to the water. This restaurant used to be an old time favourite before moving interstate. We arrived around 12:30ish expecting a full house to find only one other diner that should have been a warning. In times past this place used to rock and always be full. Our lunch we each ordered the calamari with an asian salad - sounds good. We were presented this thing covered in gloop not at all attractive and sent it back to the kitchen to be reserved minus gloop!Meal returns all good but the calamari was deep frozen the deep fried nothing original or interesting the salad plain and uninteresting Over all great location, service was just Okay drinks cold meal very ordinary - cannot recommend.
Stopped in here for a quick bite and was very happy to have done that. Staff were friendly, the food was good, the drinks were cold and the bill was very reasonable. Good view as well.
