I have been coming here for years and years. I can only offer my opinion on the sushi rolls which are awesome! They are so cheap and have always tasted fresh and to perfection and I have tried all of them! Why pay more when you have the same quality for less!! Good on them for keeping the prices low over the years although they are so popular!! View all feedback.
What flametrees doesn't like about Ajisai Japanese Restaurant:
Ajisai looks tired and drab and could do with some renos but it is clean. The place is run entirely by an older couple but if you need to eat in a hurry or have hungry children to feed (as one table near us did), Ajisai may not be for you. The food is very fresh and well presented but the long wait for our meal (over an hour for 4 dishes the place wasn't full) left our party disgruntled. We won't be back, sorry. View all feedback.
Love this little local restaurant. Had the osuimono soup, mixed entree (which was okay yakitori was not what I'd consider authentic, gyoza and spring rolls I could make better only ordered this so I could pay on card), my favourite nasu dengaku, and tried the unadon for the first time (possibly the best I've had in Melbourne). Since my last review, they've upgraded to card payments (minimum $30 required). Repeat customer.
Still an experience of freshest and most delicious kind, as our most recent dinner there has proven. Again everything was authentic, fresh and great. I have also taken out some more of their sushi hand rolls recently, at below 2 A$ moderately priced yet they delicious. Still not fancy by the looks of it, needs renovating, but the food is top!
This small resteraunt has only two staff. It has great food and really good service. We eat here regularly and love it. On busy nights there can be a bit of a wait but the food is worth it. It is good to book.
It looks rather unspectacular and a bit dated at first sight, but don’t let this fool you: It’s an experience of freshest and most delicious kind. I was not disappointed, everything was great. I have also taken out their sushi hand rolls, at 1,70 A$ moderately priced yet fantastic and they beat the mass produced chain products by far. Go see for yourself!! It’s a hidden gem!
We have lived in Bentleigh for over 32 years and can shamefully say that we have only eaten twice at this restaurant in all those years! The last time was well over 10 years ago and then again last night. We should be ashamed that we have not had a meal here in all that time as it was very good. I have often brought sushi rolls for lunch here but just never eat at night here. It has not changed its decor in all those years but the service was excellent by the one waitress who was run off her feet with a full restaurant. The meals were a little slow to come out but when they did they were extremely tasty and filling. Drinks are ridiculously cheap here but my red wine was very acceptable and my husband enjoyed his sake bringing back memories of Japan. We will certainly make sure we dine here again soon might make sure we book as they had quite a few tables reserved for regular diners.
