I have been here a number of times. And I prefer it midweek as it is quiet. The pros. It's pretty cheap. And they have a good supply of ales on tap, as well as some decent bottles. The staff are generally pretty pleasant, helpful and friendly. The food is good. The cons. It's always loud. On each and e ery Friday I have been in it has been total chaos. What Boota Singh doesn't like about The Edward Wylie:

Pleasant pub. Busy at times. Other times easy to find a table. Extensive menu. Reasonably priced food and drink. Pub now closed as of 2/4/17.
I've been to this pub many times, but this review is for a weekday lunch visit where I was part of a group of seven. The Edward G can get busy and that was certainly the case on the day I visited and so getting a table for seven of us was tricky and in the end we ended up on a low sofa and stools, which isn't ideal for dining. Despite that, this is one of the better fitted Wetherspoons pubs that I have been in I like the dark interior of the place. The queue to order food and drinks becomes a bit of a hassle when the bar is packed and so overall the service experience is saved by the speed with which the food arrives. The food is just what you'd expect from a Wetherspoons plenty of choice, all of it okay, and decent portions too. It's the price that wins the day for this pub lunch including drinks came out at around £7.50 a head incredible value for money.

I had ordered 5he Scottish breakfast and when it arrived it looked very tasty UNTIL I tried to spread my so called toast which was actually slightly tan bread still soft hard u spreadable butter An egg that was scorched and crispy which had more colour than the toast Very dry black pudding, potato scone and Lorne sausage The only moisture to my breakfast was the tomato and beans. Really not pleased at all
I have been a regular in the Edward Wylie for the past 2 years or so and always loved visiting the pub because it had such a warm and friendly atmosphere and all the staff were extremely polite and helpful and seemed to enjoy their job. They spent time getting to know the regulars and I was always welcomed by a familiar friendly face when arriving! However in the last few month I have noticed a drastic change in the pub (this could be due to the noticeable change in management). The atmosphere is dire now and the staff look miserable most of the time! There only seems to be a few members of the original friendly staff left. The pubs service levels has also seemed to decrease drastically. I was recently kept waiting at the bar by a male manager because he was too busy talking about his weekend plans to another member of staff! I think it is such a shame that the pub has ended up like this as it used to be such a lovely well run place, now it appears to be constantly under staffed with only a few staff members putting in the effort required to run a busy pub!
