We ended up here because the wait at the congee restaurant a few doors down did not fit into our schedule. But what a pleasant surprise! Lots of tables and instant service. The XLB were the best I've ever had; thinnish wrapper, tasty pork filling without being too salty or greasy (common problem), hot broth, good price $5.95 for 6.The northern style wonton (no shrimp) just lean pork and veg had the perfect amount of... The original Chen's had to leave their old space on Park Road because the block was being demolished. The new restaurant is now called Baiyulan Shanghai Cuisine and it serves the same dishes but in a more refined space. Prices are nearly the same. We ate there June 20 during the soft-opening and everything was just as good as before.
Best xlb in town. Went to the place before they closed at the current location l. They are moving to a new place near Lansdowne. Will definitely visit their new store.
As with most of the food here, the XLBs were good but don’t really stand out too much from the pack. The pork filling was meaty and there were plenty of soup packed inside. The skin was the right consistency, strong enough to hold up to my inferior chopstick skills but delicate enough it required a minimal chew.
I had great service! I don't speak Chinese and he waitress was super helpful and very nice to me.. ground pork and green beans, were amazing!! Xlb was solid. Shangai noodles were good. Spicy wontons lots of flavour and the pan fried pork buns were my favourite item. Great prices too. Big fan of this type of Chinese cooking style. Will definitely be going back. Chow
Went here for dinner with a huge group of foodie friends, and the good thing is that we're all familiar with asian cuisine, and the best thing is none of us are picky about the food, we can go with any food that seems super interesting, and seems good/sounds new to us. <br/ <br/ ordered a bunch of items, since we have around 15 people. <br/ <br/ there are a lot of dishes but the memorable ones for me are the xiao long bao, very very juicy and the flavour of the juice is very good.<br/ <br/ and spicy tea tree mushroom, although this one is salty and spicy but I like the aroma and the overpowered spices that goes well with mushroom and a bowl of rice that i have in my hand.<br/ <br/ the deep fried chicken is crisp on the skin and very moist on the meat, flavourful as well on the skin itself<br/ <br/ overall most of the food are definitely okay to good i think if you're heading with a huge group, it's definitely okay to go here.
