We ordered to do a rainy night. We had no menu, but the server that answered the phone helped us select a delicious octopus salad with a creamy dressing, a delicious steak (which we cut in three portions at home) with one side of fingering potatoes and came with a mushroom sauce and a reduced balsamico glaze (it could have been a wine glaze) and a side of panini bread with olive oil. It was a delicious French bistro... View all feedback.
What Philip F doesn't like about Gertie And The Giant Octopus:
I did leave a review and now I don't see it, the worst dining experience in my life, a total rip off, food was not edible, charged 500 percent mark up on wine If I could give a negative review I would View all feedback.
We visited Gertie's last night and had an incredible experience with both the food and service! Elise was exceptionally knowledgeable about the wonderful wine selections and pairings. We ordered the cheese boards, mushrooms in cream sauce, pasta and meatballs, and the beef Wellington, and everything was outstanding! The waitstaff was attentive and helpful, and the quality of the food was excellent. If you appreciate high-quality European fine dining, this is definitely a place to check out. It's a small restaurant and could easily be overlooked, as it is tucked away near the movie theatre in uptown.
During your visit to The Harbor, be sure to stop by Gertie; it’s a must-visit spot. They offer one of the finest wine selections south of Seattle. The staff is exceptional, and Kieran curates an experience that you won't want to miss. Bravo, Gertie!
Great ambiance, cuisine is unique and delicious, impeccable service. Highly recommend on many levels.
It was a great experience. Come to enjoy the night, the atmosphere, and the food and wine!
I wanted to love this place because it’s less than 5 minutes from my house and appeared to be a nice spot for dinner in Gig Harbor. I have visited twice before giving this review. The place is well decorated and has all the makings for a great dining experience. However, we have had poor experiences on both visits we felt generally unwelcome both times. The first time we visited, it took 3 staff members ~5 awkward minutes to decide where to seat us even though several tables and bar seats were available. They asked if we could sit at the bar, and gave us limited appetizer only menus without mention of the bar not offering dinner service at that time. We left after about 20 minutes of not being served. The second visit we came on a Thursday at opening time. Again, the awkward table seating issue occurred, with only ~3 tables occupied. They asked if we could sit at the bar again, and we agreed. We were here for over an hour and a half and they had open tables upstairs and downstairs the entire time. They were out of about 1/3 of the menu including 1/2 of the entrees! I also ordered a beer, and the keg was out. The food that we ordered was good and well cooked and the kitchen staff deserves 4 (google) stars, but it took over an hour for the food to be served. The front end staff seemed confused and untrained. In the time we were at the bar on our second visit, the record player stopped playing 3 times and the staff had to be told by guests that the music was off. We had to listen to the same Frank Sinatra album 3 times in a row!I don’t think I will give this a third try.
