What cakewithaview doesn't like about Il Campanile:
From the outside, this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired as it really needs some TLC. However, it's better inside, if you don't look too closely : We had the mushroom menu which was quite nice, especially the mushroom and Taleggio cheese risotto and the home made dessert. I tried a mix of starters and the result was really good. As main course seasonal mushrooms pasta: on the top. A flame of mushrooms wonderfull.
By a stroke of luck we found this trattoria in a small village not far from Giaveno. If one had to use the worn-out phrase 'off the beaten track ', this would be the right moment. It is a real gem of a place where relatively straight-forward, honest food is prepared from the best ingredients with love and care. I am not an expert in the Piemontese cuisine but I take it that it doesn 't get more authentic than here. During our trip to Piemonte we ate in several highly spoken off restaurants, including one in Bra, the cradle of Slow Food movement, and nowhere was the food better than at Il Campanile. The location, at the side of the village church is atmospheric and the seating outside very pleasant. We were really sorry we couldn 't stay in the area longer and go back for another meal. But at least we had this one memorable dinner there.
Local food cooked with a touch of personalization. Interesting appetizers and excellent main courses. Staff always friendly and helpful. From the lower room a splendid view of the opposite hills
