On our first evening in Genoa my wife and me decided to go out as many locals do to the Piazza delle Erbe. We didn 't have a particular place in mind for dinner, but ended up at the 'Giano ', which is the Italian name for the double headed Roman god Janus. There is plenty of outdoor seating, but we preferred to sit inside. The place looks very casual and student style, also in its interior decoration. There is a very limited menu, but it looked good for us. As so often a 'calice ', a 1dl glass of wine costs 5 6 Euros, while a 7dl bottle can be had for €20, so we went for a bottle. Liguria is not particularly known for red wines, so our choice was a Barbera d 'Asti from neighbouring Piedmont. To eat my wife selected a 'Spezzatino di Manzo con Carciofi ', a Beef Stew with Artichokes, while I went for a plain 'Filetto di Manzo ', which was served on a hot stone plate with Lamb 's Lettuce. It took a while for the food to come, but the quality was very good. While waiting for dinner suddenly the music, very unoriginal English pop music, was turned up to so loud (maybe so the outdoor customers, that were arriving, could hear it), that we asked a waiter to turn it down, since we couldn 't even talk to each other. Nothing happened. We then said the meals hadn 't arrived yet that we would pay for the wine and leave, if the music doesn 't get turned down to a descent level. Only then we got a result, that we could accept.

More than an hour to start eating, over cooked dishes, excessive prices and they tried to overcharge us with the bill. If you have to go there, check the bill twice with the menu prices!
