What Audrey Pons doesn't like about A Contre Courant:
Halte pour un apéro non prévu. Tarif tout à fait abordable malgré la vue très appréciable, 6€ pour Pastis & Coca. En revanche, pas de cacahuète ni Bretzel, enfin rien à grignoter et lorsqu'on demande il faut débourser 4€ pour goûter quelque chose au guacamole visiblement assez pimentée donc que du liquide pour cet apéro malheureusement ce qui est un peu dommage. We have recently twice had the very great pleasure of eating at A Contre Courant. As always the welcome and ambiance were very warm and kind. For the first meal we had asked if Emily could make us a vegetarian meal, as we wanted to...provide a really good experience for a vegetarian friend, who is herself an excellent cook. We asked Emily and Michel a week in advance. The meal that Emily presented was as ever a feast for the eyes and a delight to our taste buds! Great use of seasonal vegetables, subtle touches of the spices and flavours of the Antilles. No cheese or eggs, instead lentils and red beans. This is the first time we have found a truly vegetarian meal in a restaurant in France, and such a high standard. Having been disappointed in the past at other venues, we are so grateful we could share such a delicious meal as a thank you with our kind friends! We felt very happy and privileged to be taken to A Contre Courant by other visitors the following week. This time we ate from the menu of the day, and again the food was all delicious and looked very pretty too! The whole meal was uniformly excellent, and we felt the price we paid for the entree, plat and desert at per person was very reasonable. If you have not tried this restaurant before, we highly recommend that you do so, not least because as well as the excellent food, the proprietors are so charming and helpful. All the times we have been going there we are impressed by the way they work so hard. Please go there and support them, you will not be disappointed!
We arranged to meet friends here as it was a midway point. Unfortunately it was a bit of a grey drizzly day so we couldn't eat outside on the terrace with views of the Loire. We loved the Caribbean influence of the menu (a choice...of two starters, two mains and two desserts). We had tasty starters, good steaks and delicious desserts. Will definitely revisit and hopefully eat outside as it is a great location. The food was good and Mikael and Emilie were very pleasant (especially when we stayed chatting with our friends long after the end of service
Very nice little restaurant. The menu is concise, but the food is delicious. The view of the riverside of the Loire is beautiful.
Another excellent lunch, a very well prepared lapin pate, followed by an exceptionally succulent lamb, and a deliciously presented and cooked dessert.
Recently in the area with some friends and had the pleasure to dine here. The food definitely has an island twist and a lot of rums for tasting and learning. The restaurant is run by a very lovely young couple who charmed our party of...seven and made the experience even that much more special. I highly recommend this restaurant when in the area.
