OMG. Home made mojos, home made pate, salad with goat cheese (soft, creamy, fresh) gambas (not overcooked) .. cheescake! All is sooo delicious. Be back tomorrow
Delightful outdoor garden eating in shade under orange trees. Menu excellent choices. Food delicious! Some lovely walks from restaurant/bar. Enjoy a coffee before leaving on walk and drink/food at end. Open Thurs to Sunday 11am to 7pm. Food 12 to 5/5.30.
La Mata is a tiny village along LP1 just west of La Zarza on north coast of La Palma. We stopped after hiking for a late lunch, early dinner. With a small purple exterior, the quality is better indicated by the number of cars stopped. Skeptical at first (you get some stars just for being in business on this twisting remote road), the well appointed dining area, a bit dark, and service by one waitress a bit slow- all melted away with the delicious food, beautifully presented, as good as anything we've had here. The fried local cheese appetizer was wonderful, with local apricot marmelade, honey, and a dill pesto. We both had delightful salads and prawn dishes on the appetizer list, but plenty. The prawn and mushroom scramble (eggs, mushrooms, prawns) was particularly interesting. Definitely worth stopping if passing by.
In the north of la Palma, there are not many restaurants. This is a very friendly place. With nice food and a garden to eat in. Go there, when you are around.
