It’s with great disappointment that I write this review, as we have been loyal patrons of The Blue Goose every year when visiting Gansbaai. Unfortunately, this year’s experience left us frustrated and upset. On Sunday, we stopped by the restaurant to book a table for New Year’s Eve dinner. The lady who assisted us confirmed availability and wrote our booking in the reservation book. However, when we arrived today, we were informed that the restaurant wouldn’t open until 19:00, not 18:30 as per our booking. Concerned about the inconsistency, we called to confirm our reservation, only to be told that we didn’t have one and there was no space for us. This, despite personally booking at the restaurant two days prior. The staff member who answered the call simply stated that the person who took our booking wasn’t authorized to do so and offered no solution or alternative. We were left all dressed up with nowhere to go on New Year’s Eve—a night we had planned well in advance. The lack of accountability and empathy was shocking, especially from a restaurant that claims to be world-class. This is not how you treat loyal customers, let alone anyone who books in good faith. We are truly disappointed and hope the management reflects on this to prevent similar issues in the future.
