Ever since I tried the fresh and beautifully presented seafood at Matsuri, my opinion of sashimi has completely changed. I now find myself unable to go anywhere else because Matsuri has set the bar so high. Their sushi rolls are also delicious, and their menu features a mix of classy and home specialty dishes. I recommend trying the sautéed spinach or the roasted tofu in delicious broth as appetizers. The service is... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Sushi Matsuri Japanese:
The restaurant is clean, but the service is slow. We tried eight different sushi rolls, each costing over $12, and they were nicely presented. However, sushi enthusiasts may not be impressed with this place. View all feedback.
I arrived at 9:15 pm to place a takeout order, but the staff told me they were closed even though their closing time was supposed to be at 10 pm.
We are not from this area and stumbled upon this charming restaurant. The sushi rolls were delicious, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the dining room was clean. We definitely plan on returning when we are in Gainesville again!
This was one of the worst meals our group has ever had. The Udon bowl had only a few noodles in bland broth. Very disappointing. The katsudon was terrible. I was expecting a crispy pork cutlet on rice with eggs and sauce, but instead got soggy rice with a poorly cooked pork chop. The breading was falling off and the meat was dry. The sashimi was not very cold, which was worrisome. The service was good, but the atmosphere was dirty and sticky.
They are not the same Sushi Matsuri that they were before they moved to their current location. The restaurant seems smaller and has a more cramped feeling. The salmon and tuna on the Rainbow Roll were too warm. The Dragon Roll was a little too heavy on the cream cheese. Everything was not rolled tightly. We had to ask for straws for our drinks. No condiment dishes for soy sauce. Plates are a much lower grade of plastic than before. It seems that the quality went down as the prices went up.
While visiting Gainesville for work I brought a colleague here, and it did NOT disappoint! We wish we could figure out the spicy sauce so we could try and relive the experience back home.
