Was Macka at D'Browes a mag?

One of my favourites. When I want to have a special night or have interstate guests D'Browes never lets me down. The pork and lamb dishes were great last time. The restaurant is small and a little noisy but the staff are great. View all feedback.

What Sandra Johnston dislikes about D'Browes:

White tablecloth but plastic chairs, some people might think it's modern, My back doesn't. If you like kidneys for sure it's the place to go according to my friend who raved about them, unfortunately I don't .. sorry but I thought my diber was average and i would have just as good food if not better at home. Note: Their version of "Prime" might not be what you're used toAs for me, I was expecting USDA Primebut that's not the case here.

D'Browes is the answer. One of the most underrated restaurants in Canberra, why this place isn't packed every night is beyond me!Plusses...- You can walk-in without booking most nights- Food is to die for- Fine dining at a cafe price- Atmosphere, service A+- BYO only... not everyone's cup of tea but I have a good cellar so like to bring my own- Easily in the top 5 of places in Canberra for a romantic date nightNegatives...- Coffee was pretty bad, burnt the milk and weak. But I'm not going to deduct points as this place deserves full marks- BYO... some people wont like having to bring their own bottleSupport the little guy, you wont be disappointed :-)

This restaurant has a few incongruities but the quality of the food is top class. The restaurant and white tablecloth laid out tables suggest a 5 star experience. The chef personally comes out to each table to explain the extensive list of elaborate specials, which makes the diner feel special. The restaurant is BYO ALL drinks, which was a new experience for me. They do have the convenience of an IGA close by if you are caught unaware and desire soft drink or alcohol. While the staff were very friendly and attentive they were quite young and underdressed for the design standard of the restaurant. One of my companions was returning to this restaurant for the divine duck livers and was fully satiated both visits. The Osso bucco was so tender a fork was destructive. Truly sumptuous. The eye fillet likewise was superb. Each of the meals were extremely generous in portion size to our detriment, as we were unable to experience the wonderful desserts we saw delivered around us. While you can't judge a restaurant by its clientele, it does indicate a broad appeal when you see elegant diners as well as a large table of rowdy male diners you would expect to be more suited to a pub. Luckily we completed our experience just as they ramped up theirs. Overall a wonderful restaurant I would happily return to and recommend.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. I love it when you are in the hands of a quality chefwho takes care that your experience is a good one. This place is like stumblingacross one of those small village restaurants in Europe, that do a small menuexceedingly well. Quality ingredients, prepared with care and attention. And afirm feel for flavour. Natural oysters, steak, pork chop, goulash. OMG. Have been here three times recently and the food has been first rate. Thanks for the memorable meals D'browes.

BRILLIANT. Thanks Damien for providing an incredible surprise for my wife's surprise 60th. The night went off without a hitch. The food was extraordinary and the service was excellent.Your staff must be commended as they could not do enough for our many guests. Comments from our interstate visitors the next day were many and very complimentary. What an incredible setting for hold a function. Thanks.

Was taken here by my parents when they were up from Melbourne. <br/ <br/ Intimate setting with attentive wait staff. Was a little disappointed with the attire of the wait staff however. The chef personally went through the menu with us, which was a nice touch. <br/ <br/ Overall the food was pleasant but was lacking some finesse. For entree I had the scallops, which were well cooked but the buttery sauce became overpowering and left a greasiness. Was appreciated of the cooking of my salmon main, which I am quite particular about. The crispy skin was quite nice but the accompanying sides uninspiring. <br/ <br/ Overall a pleasant experience and could certainly improve with some careful thought and attention to detail.

Friendly dinner for 2. My partner took me here for a surprise date after work on a Thursday. At 7:30 it's was just ourselves and one other table. The personal service from the chef was a lovely touch and we were sold easily on the freshly baked bread. Luckily we weren't drinking other wise we'd have had to duck into the IGA next door for some byo wine. Taking a punt on ordering something a bit different, our snails marinated in rosemary n tomato and oysters Kilpatrick came out quickly and smoking hot. Just what we needed! My partner went for the spicy Hungarian goulash and was not disappointed- perfect large quantity and with a real kick! My vego option of goats cheese, capsicum n walnuts was equally filling and we'll assembled. <br/ <br/ I can imagine a bustling full restaurant on a Saturday night might have given a completely different experience, but for us this was the best dinner date. Hot tastey food, fast service with an intimate touch, and a desire to return to eat the rest of the well priced menu. <br/ <br/ A must for all Canberran's, we've already sent our friends their way.
