Love this place. love the shrimp rissole and pastel de bacalhau. and draft coral beers. best place for men to wait for women’s shopping
There are many cafes and coffee stops on Funchal. However, we always navigated back to this one for their tasty coffee and in our opinion the best pastel de natas
While visiting Funchal on a cruise ship we chose here for a coffee break. We both had a cappuccino and a Pastel de Nata each. The coffee was good and the Pastel de Nata (Portuguese custard tarts) were fantastic. Friendly and efficient service. Good value for money.
One wouldn't ordinarily expect wholesome, delicious food served at a pavement side cafe in a city centre. However, this little eatery deserves to be praised for the delicious vegetable soups just like mummy used to make, with numerical pasta) and delicately spiced fried Espada fish. Their ingredients are fresh and scrumptious. The food is decidedly Portuguese fare, despite the Italian name given to the establishment. The service is swift two-manned, including the owner himself, Noberto who hails from South Africa and has made Madeira his home since the mid nineties). The pastry shop next door, Fofinha, has the same owner as d'Italia. Once can sit indoors in both restaurants, but sitting outside under the shade of the leafy trees watching the people go by is far more interesting! We had three meals there in a space of 5 days and each meal was as delicious as the previous ones! Comforting to see that many patrons are local residents and that the prices are extremely reasonable despite the central position of the restaurant opposite BPI Bank and M Dutti)...
