You know its going to be good because the place is full of local workers not long after 12.00 noon. Come any later and you may have to wait a long time for a table if the plat du jour is still on, that is. Rocroi is a fortified town, surrounded by ancient ramparts, not far from where Champagne Ardenne meets the Belgian border. It's handy to know about if you are in this part of the world because the Boulangerie on the main square (just across from the Hotel du Commerce) is open all day until 1800hrs on Sunday. People don't come to the Commerce for minimalist up to date decor or Michelin starred cooking. They come for the solid French staples (coq au vin, terrine de campagne, choucroute, and bavette frites) cooked with that uniquely French fusion of respect for tradition, culinary competence and love. There are other options good options in Rocroi. But the Commerce is the real thing, and somewhere to be treasured at a time when so many similar establishments are fast disappearing all over France.
