We were really happy to find this place when we saw it. It looked like it was going to have some great country cooking. The chicken fried steaks were good. However, the garlic mashed potatoes, slaw, and cornbread just wasn?t. There are very few placesto eat in this one horse town. I guess next time we are staying at Surfside we will make the hour lunch no drive to Galveston toeat.
I had to hug the cook. The corn bread baked in cast iron pans the slaw is epic. Never had it like this. Gumbo.just southern dark rich rue chock full of crab and oysters . The staff makes you feel like you from here, a small town in FreeportTexas. Simply perfect
Ok,,,,,wow! $70 for two lunches and a salad. They gave us coleslaw instead of Gumbo. The Rib-eyes were over-cooked, old, very fatty, and cold. The Corn-bread was stale, the Texas-Toast soggy. The only thing half edible was the baked-potato. My kid couldnot even finish her Rib-eye,,,,seriously. Avoid. The people seemed nice but not $70 nice. The food has to be edible.
Well, it's not a restaurant on the river. The hostess hustled us into a corner, no view of anything, no choice. My daughter's blt was tasty but not great, husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger that was very good, and I ordered the fried shrimp poboy. The fried shrimp and the French fries were great. I did not eat it as a sandwich because the bread had no flavor, no texture. Tomato and onion slices were too thick for a sandwich. As the server handed us our meals, one of my fries fell off the plate, and she scooped it back with her bare hand. I confess that in this time of covid that did not make me feel very comfortablewith the food in general. Over all, not a bad meal, not a bad place to eat, but also not a place that will have me hurryingback.
Service was good and our server was training a new associate. Restaurant is clean and good atmosphere. However, food left a lot to be desired. Slaw was good, but chicken breast was very tough, stuffed shrimp was extremely over breaded and overcooked.Cornbread and hush puppies, dry. Not a lot of flavor to anything. Was hoping for a much better experience.
