This sushi restaurant is a good option for satisfying your sushi cravings without breaking the bank. We ordered takeout and everything was well-packaged. The Takoyaki (5 pieces for $8) was tasty but a bit doughier than expected, with only a small piece of octopus in each ball. The Spider Roll (5 pieces for $11) with imitation crab, soft shell crab, avocado, and cucumber was good but fell apart easily. The assorted ni... View all feedback.
What Craig M doesn't like about Dozo Izakaya:
I joined and supported this restaurant through Covid. Bought an annual Gold Membership for $100. Renewed the next year only to have the restaurant be closed for months at a time. There has been no communication about extending memberships, prices went up by 25% and portion size decreased dramatically. Very disappointing. View all feedback.
Love the sushi burrito and also get her poke shelves that was excellent and also
Friendly people, good service, excellent food! must try it!
After the decision, we didn't want to have crazy long lines in san mateo, we found dine in option with dozo. what a hidden gem! it is a standard small mother-n-pops rannte place with izakaya, sushi, sashimi and ramen dial. we ordered tempura rolls, oldashi tofu, ochazuke and deep fried soft shell basket. positiw: large portion, eating comes fast. very recommend the gealterashi tofu and all rice-based plates because their rice is super soft high quality Japanese chalk type. negatiw: they can really clean up a lot more. in the interior of the restaurant was a little stunned and creepy, furniture worn. no wonder. parking: many free parking spaces.
I’ve been here twice now and have gotten the sashimi omakase twice. 24 pieces for $58. The sushi chef does well to give a nice variety of toro, sake, and hamachi and though the fish is fresh and delicious, I don’t think the best cuts are included. Their other food is passable: the grilled pork belly is a good pick from the izakaya menu thick pieces and the right amount of smoke. Miso Kama is also quite nice but if you’re looking for a classic Kama with the ponzu, skip the miso because it definitely changes the dish a bit. Ramen can be skipped. Rolls are typical and a bit over priced $14 per). Chawanmushi steamed egg) is also a meh. Service is nice and friendly but for a restaurant this size, I’d suggest one more server to keep things running. Parking is generally pretty easy. It’s located in a quiet area just off 92 in foster city. Give em a go!
Awesome place to have fresh sashimi, Rolls, tonkotsu ramen and skewers. Quite chill atmosphere. We visit here pretty often, and the food never let us down. Recently there is a promo about lamb skewer which is a must.
