Not one to give 5 stars to places with limited menu 's. Here I make the exception. Nellie works hard preparing the Filipino food from scratch. I 'm a stickler on Adobo. I look for the vinegar taste. Nellie puts bell peppers and carrots in her Adobo. I asked her why? Her reply as she was cutting up carrots and didn 't miss a beat It 's an upgrade. What User doesn't like about Nellie's Lumpia Fwb:
The staff member in the back was quite rude. I'm not sure if there was a language barrier, but her tone was not welcoming at all. Although I appear black, she didn't realize I am Visiyan and could understand some of what she said. I chose not to escalate the situation by raising my voice or calling the police, especially on a holiday. On a positive note, the food was fantastic. However, parking is very limited, with... My husband, I went to Nellie today. We paid $32 for buffet menu. The food wasn't good. I also sat and watch the lady clean tables and repair people drinks with the same gloves. This is a serious violation of the health code. It's cross-contamination. So we're up and down. We're not coming back.
The guy at the counter was very rude I was trying to pay and had to transfer money over and when I was done I showed him that I had the money in my account he looked at me dead in my face and said I don't care with a rude look and he didn't even care. That's just poor customer service
I got the beef/vegetable lumpia, pancit, and lechon and it was all fantastic. I grew up in a place with a really large Filipino community and have some Filipino family members so I've had a lot of mainly home-cooked Filipino foods from multiple different households. So I like to think I have more Filipino food experience than average. The lechon was hot, fresh, and amazing too. For anyone that doesn't know, lechon is deep fried cubes of pork belly. It's extremely rich and maybe one of the purest forms of the pork experience you can buy lol. To offset the richness, they serve it with a vinegar and soy sauce based dip that really balances it out well. Sometimes with lechon, there's a danger of it being too tough since pork belly meat can be on the tough side, so if you over-fry it, it's really hard to chew. Not Nellie's. Hers was super tender. The pancit had a fantastic flavor and used a combination of thin rice noodles and thicker flour noodles which were both nice and bouncy. I didn't realize the different noodle types were a regional thing since I'm mainly used to pancit with only the thin transparent noodles. But after some research, I found that both types are common depending on where you're from, and combining the two types is a thing too. So I was really happy I got to try a new type of pancit. I've made pancit at home too and Nellie's was way better than mine lol. It's not greasy at all like you get with some pancits that try to use oil to prevent noodles sticking to the pot. The lumpia was great too. IMO lumpia is a superior form of egg roll because egg roll wrappers are really thick and can weigh down the rest of the ingredients with their thickness. But lumpia wrappers are very thin and are light and crispy whereas eggroll wrappers are thick and chewy. Nellie puts cheese in hers which is unusual, but I still think even with the cheese you are getting a classic Filipino lumpia experience. The sauce is really good too. Honestly so nice to have Filipino style lumpia again. Lastly, I had a great conversation about Filipino food with the man at the register. He was super friendly and it's clear that he and his family are passionate about their food. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely be coming back here regularly. Unfortunately I'm 7 hours away! Definitely stopping by the next time I'm in the area.
I made my order by a phone call. The lady was rude, she'd tell me that she can't hear me over the phone but hang up without double checking my order. I somehow ended up with 2types of lumpias...I ordered a dozen of lumpias and a combo, a dozen of them had different ingredients than what came with the combo and I'm pretty sure they were spring rolls. The cashier also threw out the receipt without asking g if I needed it so there's no good way of checking what I actually got. Very disappointed, food are okay, bad service.
