I am 56 years old and have been from Texas to South Carolina in search of great BBQ. I have been everywhere in between as well. I am not a novice when it comes to BBQ. If you have to have sauce on the meat then you do not understand great BBQ. The pork and the brisket are the best I have ever tasted. I want to taste the meat and the correct amount of smoke in my BBQ. Roadside gave me the perfect blend. It was amazing !! I have found my favorite BBQ place right here in Fort Payne Alabama !!
Found this place on Google maps before I knew I'd be in the area driving through. Guy behind the counter was super nice and helpful. I got the brisket sandwich combo: with a side and drink. The brisket comes chopped on the sandwich and it was really really good. You get to choose your sauce and I went with Alabama white, loved it. The Mac and cheese for my side was probably one of the better Mac and cheese I've ever had. Great little place. Looks like a relatively small operation so I imagine things can get backed up when they're busy.
Good atmosphere. Good folks. Strong (or one might say uncompromising food quality all the way around. Typically some good tunes on, too. Some of the flavors might be a bit different from what people have come to expect at a regular BBQ joint, but this is not those places and they are not trying to be. Not that other places don 't, but these folks do care about their product, their customers and their community. The sauces are good. They are not typical ketchup based volume, however. They are meant to compliment and let the meat quality and flavor stand out. The meat is not meant to be a simple avenue for sauce, like a chip with salsa. They have options for eating light, heavy and in-between.Salad that isn 't just a pile of iceberg or romaine (quite the opposite with arugula and/or fresh, tasty seasonal greens with flavor and nutritional value, freshly shredded cheese, onion straws, etc. , shrimp po 'boy with the baguette being from Gambino 's, ribs, brisket, nachos, Springer chicken, green chile (with hatch chiles , mac cheese (cavatappi and house beer cheese , brussels hash, slaw that has flavor to complement the meat and isn 't just a cup of vinegar or mayo... the list goes on. Each menu item is unique to Roadside Que and can either stand on its own or hop right in concert with whatever you or the rest of the table is having. One of the best spots in the area, in my opinion.Go check them out and remember there is more parking around back.
We had lunch here our second day in town. The food was good and service was excellent! I highly recommend visiting when you're In the area.
We were welcomed immediately at the counter with a quick overview of the menu. The food was full of flavor! Ribs and nachos were great. We got the tangy bbq sauce which was a little different but a nice change of pace. It was not a thick sauce, butthinner like dark vinegar with spices just unexpected. Nachos we hearty. Sides were not typical for southern sides anorthern flare the German potato salad and green chili were really good. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the back patio. One of the staff noticed our bikes on the car and gave us a great tip on a trail in the Desoto State park. Would definitelyrecommend!
