We were expecting fried chips and instead they were simply warm tortillas. I had a pork chop with a roasted chile rellano. Excellent!! My husband and I are moving to Fort Collins and we will return to this restaurant.
We love El Monte's Happy Hour menu and stop in often for guac and soft tacos. Tasty and nicely presented.
We had patronized El Monte ever since they opened and had come to love the place good value for the money, good staff (albeit sometimes slow on drinks even when the restaurant wasn't jammed) and tasty vittles (customizable guac is a favorite). Then came chef changes and concomitant menu changes, a lot of which took us to places we didn't wish to go, and so we visited much less often. Well, they have rediscovered some of the items we long term patrons really valued and brought them back, and we're happy to put El Monte back into the rotation! To any folks who may have abandoned El Monte while they have wandered in the wilderness, they are worth a try again.
When we arrived they didn't seem to be expecting us and there were plenty of open tables but it took them a while to figure out where to seat us with three people involved. They thought there were more in our party than two even though no one else was waiting. Margaritas were great. Baked relleno with quinoa excellent.
We had a 630 reservation for 6 people. After waiting for 10 minutes, we were seated. After 30 minutes and numerous attempts to get someone's attention, we were acknowledged by wait staff. Finally received water and ordered all at the same time. Waitress said there was a misunderstanding as to who our server was...food is delicious and the Esteban is the bomb. We will be back, just not any time soon.
