My wife and I were fortunate to discover Antica Macelleria Forte early in our stay in Fondi. The shop is much more than a butcher shop. Besides housemade salumi, the shopkeepers also offer ready-made dishes, from lasagne and roasted chicken to stewed chicory and roasted eggplant. (We have bought the roasted chicken twice, it is so good. The shop has a fine selection of cheeses, including local treats, as well as fresh breads. The shop also stocks a limited selection of dried pastas as well as other staples. All in all, it’s a great option for assembling a picnic.

Today in the ancient strong maceleria I could make a good goto of sausages of black casertano by Uncle Antonio strong butcher for 50 years, accompanied by fantastic Ciuarej nostrani made with raisin cigole and spicy chili....sapori of other times
