Visited last night for the first time, we will be back! I had the lobster in special. $20 for a boiled lobster and 2 sides, unbelievable but true! My dinner companions got the ribeye and the prime rib, both were cooked perfectly to order. The strawberry mousse was perfect, great flavor and a great size. The crab dip had big chunks of crab. And sitting on the patio with Ryan Jewel playing was a nice way to spend an ev... View all feedback.
What Joe D doesn't like about Flint Hill Public House Country Inn:
Disappointed. Disappointed is how I feel when I reminisce to what the Public House was and to what it is now. The ambience and atmosphere present in the restaurant is very nice and hopeful. The food, however, is a let down. Ever since the menu change, the food has not been as good and has only increased in price. Unless the menu is changed again and the food is actually worth the price, two stars. View all feedback.
We've been through the Flint Hill area many times, but have just never stopped in to try Flint Hint Public House. So, when done hiking in the area one week day we figured we would give it a try. We were very impressed with how beautiful the grounds are and the inside of the dining room/restaurant is done in a very modern motif and looks amazing. The menu was vast with many homemade options and even some healthy options as well. They have a full bar with a nice wine menu featuring local wines, even some made by local wineries just for them! The service we received was very nice and attentive. Even the chef came out to check on our meals. This was a very nice visit and we look forward to going back soon, especially when the nicer, summer weather comes. We'd love to sit outside, they have beautiful outdoor seating.
Jean and I had not been here for many years (at least 7 and since we visited there has been a major and magnificent remodel of the space. The restaurant, bar area and back deck are a cohesive showpiece clean, well organized, exquisitely appointed and nicely adorned with art from the owner 's personal collection (we must have similar tastes, some really nice pieces! . Comfortable chairs, contemporary decor, friendly service, visually appealing a great first impression! After reviewing the menu we both settled quickly on Filet Mignons (one for each of us . Each was served over a wonderfully finished Portobello Mushroom and sided with loaded mashed potatoes and wonderful fresh green beens. The steaks, cooked medium, were excellent. Soft, tender, perfectly seasoned, and the temperature was spot on. I enjoyed two different draft beers from Virginia an IPA from Devil 's Backbone and a dark ale (I believe it was from Starr Hill in Charlottesville , cold and tasty! Our server was Angela M, fun, efficient, knowledgable and friendly! Great job Angela! Chef Marvin Swaner come by the table to chat. It was a very nice touch, good guy, huge talent in the kitchen! Thanks for your good work Marvin! We were not sure what to expect, but the restaurant exceeded our expectations! We shall return and will bring friends along to share the experience! Cheers Public House Team, nice job all around! See you again soon!

Pros: The food is consistently good. The chef pops out to check on your experience. They regularly have lunch and drink specials that they tweet. The atmosphere is unusual for the area (pro/con). It is modern and chic. They offer local Virginia wines and Wasmund's whiskey. Cons: The atmosphere is unusual for the area (pro/con). They haven't been busy when I've been there, which makes it feel a little awkward. Summary: I'll return for sure. It's not good if you want a country experience, but if you want city style, this place is perfect.
This place just opened under new ownership. They have done a superb job of remodeling the building, it is truly unrecognizable from it's previous condition. The decor is clean, modern and well thought out from the comfortable chairs to the color palette and the savvy art work. The food has been hit and miss over the last several months. It seems the fare is a little too a la Applebees and not enough from scratch. The menu lists many American staples. The portion sizes are generous. Service was very attentive and polite. Although having been here probably ten times this summer and spring, there has been a new crop of waitstaff each time, in fact I'm not certain I've ever seen the same face twice; which is a little disconcerting. After dinner, the first time we ate here, we were given a tour of the bar and patio as well as their very cozy and beautifully appointed guest rooms upstairs. The rooms are priced very well! I live ten miles away and would enjoy staying here. Pleased to see a place like this come to the county, but I think the cuisine would benefit from a little more love and a little less corporate style fare.
