Traditional inner city pub with good bar menu and range of beers on tap. Beef pie was excellent and partner enjoyed the mushroom burger. Chips were crunchy and had a tasty seasoning. Staff friendly and exposed brick gives a unique interior that is still quite bright with plenty of windows View all feedback.
What Tim H doesn't like about The Rose Fitzroy:
The entree of mushroom dumplings was pretty good and the crispy barramundi was okay. However, my main, a porterhouse was a real disappointment. It was cold, gristly and fatty. Whatever had been poured over the top tasted burnt. My five chips were also burnt and soggy. View all feedback.
The Rose had a recent refit that many were worried about. It was just a plain old classic local pub. But, nothing to worry about here. The open plan is much better! Love it, and it's still a classic local.
Look it's comfortable and the food's OK. There is a great collection of beers and wines, so it's not a bad place to hang with friend or to watch the footie.
This one was tough to review. We had been going to the Rose for some 15 years, so clearly loved the old atmosphere, but to be frank the last few years leading up to the reno it started to drop in our eyes in terms...More
Devastated. Hadn't been to the Rose in two years because moved interstate. Sped through traffic to get there on time for the Sydney GWS game only to be met by wall of hipsters and otherwise empty shell. What a great pub this used to be. You can barely watch the footy any more because some tasteless drongo decided to hang stupid orb lighting from the ceiling that reflects off every screen in the joint. The great footy memorabilia is still there on the walls but it's no longer prominent and looking like it's ready to be shipped out the door. Surely, it would have been better for business to leave it the way it was? But I guess they don't teach that at Moron Business School.
The Rose has recently been renovated and is now an open plan bar. That's good for management as it fits in more patrons however it's lost a little ambience. It has a cold feel now the carpet is gone and it's noisy, even though they have put in baffles. It provides good pub food catering to new age kids with organics etc but the basics are still there for the rest of us. Overall, it's still worth a visit providing you like football overpowering the whole bar. When games are over they play the winning theme song at full volume which is annoying. Impossible to watch any other sport if that's what you like. Tried to watch the fights once without success. The Carlton Draught is frothy and full of life, unlike other pubs who don't clean their glasses properly.
