We stopped at the Rössli purely by chance. Exactly to the minute, the innkeeper reopened his doors after the lunch break. Very friendly and courteous service. The salad is fresh versatile and very fine. The pizza comes in three sizes, a sensational base, generous toppings. We are quite critical but it couldn't be better. Thank you for this experience and encounter! View all feedback.
What Martina Rüegg doesn't like about Gasthaus Roessli:
Unfortunately very disappointing!! 50 minutes of waiting for people to pick up, but that was the smallest problem.. all 3 pizzas were totally soggy in the middle, the edge was great.. but the worst thing was all 3 additional ingredients for Fr. 4. were missing from my pizza!!! !! Very bland in taste! Shame about the money!! View all feedback.
Coming from New York we were on our way to Austria for a ski vacation (landed early AM in Zurich). I did not know the area but what I knew for sure was that I did not want to take highways for the Swiss leg of the trip. St. Gallenkappel fell right at the spot where we needed a break. What a luck!! We entered a wonderful hidden gem of Swiss hospitality. You are away from the tourist crowds and experiencing a genuine Swiss environment of no-judgement and friendliness. The place is clean and low-key. We stayed in the smaller dining area by the kitchen. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! Most of what is served is locally sourced. The service in English was friction free and friendly. No, you will not be smothered in attention, thank God, but will be given quick attention only when you need it. The smiles were not fake but genuine and we appreciated the space we were given. Note: Genuine Swiss cuisine only. If you are the type of client who orders heavily customized dishes (Chicken salad but without the chicken, please replace with organic tuna; local hand-made pastry but I want it gluten free; please toast the bread but only butter from Provence please) ... it 's a small kitchen, honest ... just keep driving. The magical views of the mountains that followed on the twisty roads were absolutely stupendous. Unconditionally worth the detour.
