Contribute FeedbackThe restaurant in question seems to have a mixed bag of reviews, with some praising the food quality and atmosphere while others criticize the overcharging and lackluster service. Despite the charming building and excellent food, issues with service charge, lack of accessibility, and unfriendly waitstaff may have dampened the overall experience for some patrons. However, for those who enjoyed the food, ambiance, and friendly service, the restaurant is seen as a gem worth revisiting. If the establishment addresses its service-related issues, it could potentially attract more customers and enhance its reputation as a dining destination in the picturesque village of Finchingfield.
Situated in the picturesque village of Finchingfield, Essex, this charming pub has a storybook-like setting. However, we experienced a lengthy wait of over an hour for our food orders. The owner explained that it was due to everyone arriving at once, which was beyond his control. While I was enjoying myself, some in my group found the wait to be too long. If you're on a tight schedule, this may not be the best place for a meal. However, the atmosphere is lovely, and enjoying a pint before moving on may be the best option. I tried the BLT, which was decent, though not the best I've had. I would consider returning to try something else. Despite the wait, once we received our meals, everyone seemed satisfied. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we even had the chance to chat with other travelers passing through. Parking was a bit of a challenge, requiring some patience to find a spot nearby. Overall, I would stop by again if I found myself in the area.
Wonderful little inn with a cozy fireplace. We first visited here in the early '60s (we lived next door), and again in 2012. Excellent food and service, genuine English countryside atmosphere.
This pub offers a fantastic view overlooking the green and pond. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing evening in spring or summer, especially after taking a stroll around the village and checking out the windmill. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly.
Disappointing rude and thoughtless treatment by owner of this pub in the charming village of Finchingfield really cast a bad light in an otherwise lovely place. I came in with Sarah this morning to spend about an hour and a half while she saw patients at a nearby home. After spending £22 on a lunch for one the owner promptly came over and asked me to give up my table and move to the bar. I said that wasn't ok and I hadn't even digested my food. Sarah Williams was also on the way back (she's 23 weeks pregnant) to have a bite to eat as well. But this inn keeper wasn't concerned with anything but turning his tables as quickly as possible. I had an exchange with him as he was insulting and clearly not an individual with any business acumen. I was very insulted and disappoint in his treatment of me and I quickly paid my bill and waited for my wife outside instead of in his pub. Really what is wrong with people!? I strongly urge everyone to avoid this guys business.
Can't believe there were no reviews for this great pub. It's got a view of one of the best villages in Essex , right on the village green by the duck pond. Was there last weekend sitting out the front watching vintage cars and bikes out for a run in the sunshine . Every sort of transport passes through here . Superbikes ,supercars , and owners clubs out for a run. You never know what's coming past .good food beer and service . Top pub.
