New Maxin - Fife
New Maxin
Description
Maxin's, a Chinese takeaway in Kirkcaldy, has sparked a mixed bag of reactions. While some patrons enjoy its traditional specialties and affordable set lunch menu, others lament a decline in food quality, describing dishes as bland and poorly prepared. Customers report unappetizing items and disappointing service, with complaints about overcooked or underwhelming starters and mains, leaving many questioning their choice to dine there. However, positive experiences highlight a welcoming atmosphere and delicious options, particularly after a change in management. Overall, while some diners continue to view Maxin's as a hidden gem, others advise caution when considering it for a meal.

I typically avoid publicly criticizing restaurants, but I have to admit this was the worst Chinese takeaway I've ever experienced. Maxin's, once well-regarded in Kirkcaldy, has severely declined in quality. The food was bland, the chicken was slimy and tasteless, the fried rice seemed uncooked, and the chow mein was inedible. Unfortunately, most of the meal ended up in the trash. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
We’ve visited lots of times since 2016, and particularly enjoyed recent meals, where we’ve explored the traditional specialties part of the menu, which are interesting, tasty and distinguish the restaurant from others we’ve enjoyed in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester etc. Maxin is a local, under-appreciated gem that we’ll be delighted to enjoy again in coming months. The staff are nice too, relaxing as their experience grows. We are utterly puzzled by the negative reviews as we very frequently eat out, and have plenty to compare with.
By far the worst take away ive had, this restuarant used to be one of the best around kirkcaldy but it's went so far downhill it's unbelievable, rubbery processed chicken, chicken wings that look like they've not been cooked , I feel physically sick after eating their food half an hour ago. Wouldn't ear put here again if it cost nothing , this place has lost its appeal and has fell into the below average take away category. Avoid!
I usually try to support local businesses, but I will never order from this Chinese restaurant again. The food was awful - the chicken didn't taste like chicken, the rice and chow mein had a strange smell and taste, and the prawn crackers were disgusting. When I called to complain, the chef admitted that the chow mein may not have been the best. The only decent thing was the salt and pepper chips. I was offered a credit note to cover two chow meins, but I felt like I wasted £30. I should have stuck to my usual place, Amritsar, which never disappoints. I hope Maxine's can improve their food quality soon. Very disappointing experience.
